**Pilot project summary**: An innovative new partnership between Toronto Public Library and Gerstein Crisis Centre, the Toronto Public Library - Community Crisis Intervention Team Pilot is a collaborative, on-site resource for building the capacity of the library system, providing low-barrier mental health and crisis supports for individuals accessing the library. This pilot will be guided by the voices of people with lived experience, and promote an innovative model for crisis support, wellness and recovery, and knowledge sharing. The pilot will provide services in select Toronto Public Library locations to library customers that are experiencing the often-intersecting vulnerabilities of mental health challenges, substance us, low income, and homelessness or precarious housing. The pilot will utilize a multifaceted approach to service delivery, including on-site crisis support, referrals and connection to other needed supports and services, and on-site wellness and recovery groups.

**Job Summary**: The Community Crisis Intervention Worker (CCIW) provides crisis intervention, de-escalation, crisis management and follow-up services and referrals to individuals accessing the Toronto Public Library who are experiencing mental health and/or substance use crisis and are not currently in need of Emergency Services.
The crisis worker will work collaboratively with community members to provide help and assistance that is adapted to diverse needs and includes diversion away from unnecessary police or medical emergency response.

Gerstein Crisis Centre (GCC) believes strongly that a model in which the earliest intervention for mental health needs is provided by a mental health worker and can provide opportunities to access the services people want and need to leverage help sooner, while reducing stigma, discrimination, and unnecessary police involvement.

**Successful applicants will have**:

- At least five years of experience working in community mental health, crisis intervention, substance use specific services or experience in a related field;
- A broad understanding of all of the factors that impact an individual’s mental health and well
- being including the social determinants of health, trauma, poverty and homelessness;
- A demonstrated ability to adapt interventions to ensure equity, access and accommodation;
- A demonstrated commitment to working through an Anti-Racist, Anti-Oppression, Trauma informed lens;
- A demonstrated capacity to provide/offer interventions to a diverse client group including Persons with Disabilities, Black, Indigenous, Racialized, 2SLGBTQ+ and Neurodiverse communities;
- A demonstrated capacity to provide crisis intervention and utilize de-escalation strategies and interventions;
- A demonstrated ability to provide suicide risk assessment and interventions using the ASIST model;
- A demonstrated ability to work with issues related to substance use and concurrent disorders within a harm reduction framework;
- A demonstrated capability to be flexible and work under pressure;
- A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with clients, community partners and service providers and make appropriate use of resources;
- A demonstrated ability to navigate multiple computer and communication systems;
- A demonstrated capacity to utilized client management software for record keeping and data collection;
- Strong organizational skills
- A demonstrated understanding of issues related to involvement in the Mental Health and Justice System;
- An extensive working knowledge of community supports available in the City of Toronto;
- A demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team;
- A current and working knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Mental Health Act and P.H.I.P.A.;
- A valid Ontario ‘G’ Driver’s License

This position will involve:

- Work across multiple GCC services and locations that may be within a short
- term residential setting;
- Potential occasional remote work.
