As a key department of the Royal Alberta Museum, the Learning team’s purpose is to facilitate accessible, meaningful, human-centered experiences to unlock Albertans’ capacity for connection, empowering them to act as stewards of our environment and communities.
**Role**:
Do you love making meaningful connections between themes and the public? Do you have a unique understanding of historic thinking, scientific processes and interpretive pedagogy? Are you experienced in unlocking a theme, idea or artifact with storytelling to create “aha” moments and engaging experiences for all types of audiences?
As the the Learning Facilitator, you will ensure visitors and program participants at the Royal Alberta Museum (RAM) unlock meaningful connections to the objects and stories within. This is achieved through the development and delivery of immersive programs (both facilitated and self guided) and experiences.
In this role, you will ensure RAM's spaces are lively and relevant with a diverse range of education and public programming events, hands-on demonstrations, or guided tours at the RAM. The Learning Facilitator will bring knowledge of local Indigenous traditions and ways of learning to RAM's programs, events and their ongoing development.
Facilitated programs are an important service to the community that allows for questions and answers, contextualizing information, and enriching experiences which lead to the meaningful interpretation of exhibits and objects. These experiences like object tables, tours or lectures, hands-on activities and more create unique opportunities to elevate the visibility of Alberta's history and landscapes to groups of all ages.
As a Learning Facilitator, you will be an important part of bringing Alberta's history to life, creating meaningful experiences, and exceptional programs through:
- Researching into interpretive/educational best practices and audience needs
- Fostering and leading program development of experiences and programs for all audience types including children, school groups or general public.
- Delivering engaging and dynamic experiences using several techniques including but not limited to hands on activities, inquiry-based presentations, games, tours, and virtual programs where appropriate.
- Evaluating programs for impact of learning outcomes, participant satisfaction and program improvements.
- Engaging and networking with diverse communities to create relevant programming.
- Working with the Indigenous Engagement team to ensure reconciliation is in the foundation of all program’s ethos.
**Qualifications**:
University graduation in a related field (Education, Museum Studies, Science Communication, Indigenous Studies, or related field), plus a minimum of 2 years progressively responsible related experience in interpretive or educational program development and delivery at museums, interpretive centers, or children’s museum. Equivalencies will be considered on the basis of directly related education or experience on a 1:1 basis.
You will possess the following:
- Sound knowledge of current interpretive techniques, teaching and presentation of exhibits and programs to multiple audiences.
- Knowledge of Alberta's human and natural history, including Indigenous perspectives and ways of knowing.
- Computer Literacy in Microsoft 365 suite and internet
- Ability to lift 50lbs and spend extended hours walking and standing
Assets:
- Familiarity with Alberta Curriculum, historical thinking and the scientific processes
