**Job Title**: Inclusion Facilitator for a young adult with medically complex support needs

**Reports to**: Family

We are currently seeking a part-time **Inclusion Facilitator** (20-30 hours, flexible hours, daytime, and evening) who will be responsible for providing support to a young adult with intellectual disabilities who is in their second year of studies at Concordia University of Edmonton. This young adult has a deep commitment to their learning, especially as it relates to history, education, indigenous studies, and advocacy. In their spare time, they enjoy gaming, D&D, hanging out with friends, hiking, canoeing, camping, and getting outdoors. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in learning how to support someone who is medically complex, requiring non-invasive respiratory support such as oxygen, suctioning, and BiPAP ventilation while in community and at home.

The Inclusion Support Worker will be required to assist the young adult with their personal care and health need but also with their studies in post-secondary, pursuing employment, connecting, and building relationships with others in community.

In addition to working with the young adult and his family, the Inclusion Facilitator will contribute to a team that facilitates the inclusion of students with intellectual disabilities in all aspects of academic & campus life within the Concordia University Campus and the greater Edmonton community.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Facilitate meaningful student participation in a wide range of classes; for example, help young adult prepare so they contribute to class discussions and coursework, meaningfully participate in group assignments, demonstrate their learning in thoughtful ways, etc.
- Provide support young adult in learning goals and educational goals utilizing virtual learning resources based on instructors’ directions and with the support from Inclusion Alberta’s Inclusive Post-Secondary Team.
- Provide support to young adult’s personal needs, including medication administration, personal hygiene and wellness, support in preparing and consuming meals, and implementing any emergency procedures both at home and in community.
- Provide necessary personal care so young adult can be fully present and contributing on campus and in the community.
- Facilitate relationships amongst classmates, clubmates, coworkers and community members by helping the young adult to participate in a variety of activities on campus and in community.
- Network and collaborate with faculty members, business owners, managers, employers, and other community members to develop job and career opportunities in the students’ chosen field of study.
- Actively collaborate with and positively support Inclusion Alberta team members
- Regularly & actively engage in critical reflection and dialogue about inclusion both individually and as a team member.

**Qualifications**
- Deep & abiding commitment to inclusion (as demonstrated by one’s experiences & contributions to community)
- Dedicated learner, reflective practitioner, and committed to one’s professional development
- Hours of work are primarily during the day but may require some evenings & weekends & do require some flexibility
- Able to assist the student’s use of technology including iPad, Chromebook, modified gaming console to promote learning and interaction with peers
- Demonstrates the ability to work and collaborate with others to support the inclusion of the young adult
- Comfortable with public speaking and community development (approaching new people)
- Demonstrates the physical ability to transition a student in and out of a wheelchair.
- A commitment to learn and attend to the physical needs of the young adult including tube feeding, respiratory supports, positioning, personal care, bathroom assistance.
- A commitment to learning how to attend to the student's health and medical needs as indicated by the family.
- Regularly and quickly prepare written reports for multiple audiences
- Experience with assistive communication is encouraged.
- Nursing or Health related training or experience is an asset.
- Current criminal record clearance is required.

**Please note that this is employment working directly for a family through an FMS contract. It is not employment with Inclusion Alberta directly.**

Pay: From $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 - 30 per week

Schedule:

- Evening shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
