**FUNCTION**

The Director of Care is responsible for the quality of care and services provided to residents. With this in mind, it sets up the tools, policies, procedures and protocols necessary for the administration of clinical care and assistance for the CHSLD Chateau sur le Lac clientele. He/She plans, coordinates and controls the health care and assistance activities of her institution’s clients with a view to continuous improvement. It coordinates, evaluates and updates the services offered by the institution and constantly innovates to meet the needs of residents and the population of its territory. It ensures the sustainability of the institution by maintaining exemplary quality in the administration of care and services.

The Director of Care participates with the Director General in defining the mission, philosophy and objectives of the institution and represents the institution with all levels of government, professional orders, community organizations, residents and the community and of the population.

**POSITION **REQUIREMENTS**
- DEC in nursing
- Management training or relevant experience
- Knowledge of the CHSLD mission
- Knowledge of the law on health and social services
- Mobilizing leadership
- Relational strength and good communicator
- Good command of French and English
- Facilitates building alliances and partnership

**ROLES** **AND **RESPONSIBILITIES**

To the resident and his/her family:

- Evaluates customer satisfaction by analyzing the results of the satisfaction questionnaires. Following the analysis, he/she paints a picture of the dissatisfaction and comments to the Director General. He/She develops a plan of action at the level of care.
- He/She promotes strategies for promoting the rights of residents by working jointly with the users’ committee and monitoring them.
- He/She encourages the participation of residents in various committees by promoting committees in the institution.
- He/She promotes the participation of residents and families in the development of intervention plans by setting up interdisciplinary meetings.
- He/She protects the resident by providing safe care through the establishment of a continuing education program; policies and procedures for infection prevention, fall prevention, drug control mechanisms, drugs and narcotics, etc.
- He/She ensures transparency and a climate of confidence by promoting the disclosure of any incident or accident
- Ensures investigations in cases of accidents, incidents, infections or complaints.

To the staff:

- Determine the amount of care hours needed on the units and the quota to meet the needs of residents.
- Develop job descriptions for staff.
- Provides equipment and materials for care to all staff, assesses its relevance, quality and efficiency.
- Periodically assess staff knowledge and skills, and promote training and skills development.
- Evaluates the performance and behavior of the staff and other managers under his/her responsibility and in accordance with established policies, prepares promotions, transfers or disciplinary measures. She meets with staffs who are dealing with professional or personal issues and monitors them.
- Prepares and schedules hiring interviews to ensure the replacement of staff and succession.
- Evaluate probation staff with the collaboration of their managers.
- Establishes effective means of communication to transmit all relevant information while ensuring respect for confidentiality.
- Collaborate in the development of collective prescriptions with physicians.
- Provides a safe environment for staff.
- Schedule information meetings and meetings with staff on a regular basis.

To the institution:

- Respects standards, regulations and laws in the development and establishment of its policies, procedures, protocols, methods and procedures.
- Represents the institution with its partners, collaborators, government authorities, professional orders, community organizations, committees, etc. and promotes the quality of care and services at the facility.
- Administers efficiently by controlling expenses and promoting sound management.
- Promotes partnership and negotiates care agreements or contracts.
- Ensures the preparation and availability of all documents required for annual reviews, strategic plan, action plans or improvement plans, or any other administrative requirements for Management.
- Prepares, at the request of the General Management, any documents necessary for the proper functioning of the Department of Care.
- Participate on the management committee.
