The Glebe Centre is a leading Long-Term Care and Senior Outreach home in Ottawa that serves 254 residents and over 1100 people in the vibrant Ottawa community. **POSITION**

The Director of Care is responsible for both the strategic direction and the overall operations of the Nursing Department within the Glebe Centre. More specifically, the Director of Care oversees and advocates for quality resident centered care including services and programs in full compliance with the Ontario Ministry of Health legislative mandate and regulations. The Director of Care ensures the efficient utilization of nursing resources and effectively leads a nursing team and monitors the quality of care and services delivered to residents.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Registered Nurse with current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- 5-10 years of registered nurse experience in long-term care working at the management level or in the health care sector with good understanding and knowledge of long-term care
- Experience in various clinical settings with a proven track record of leadership Comprehensive knowledge of evidence based clinical practices
- Comprehensive knowledge of long-term care concepts and philosophies
- Demonstrated effective communication and conflict management skills
- Current CPR Certificate and Police Reference Check

**RESPONSIBILITES**
- Current knowledge of Long-Term Care facility administration including accreditation standards, Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Regulations, RAI-MDS, Ministry of Labour, and Public Health guidelines.
- Demonstrated leadership ability within an interdisciplinary and unionized environment Demonstrated ability to manage and supervise employees
- Demonstrated ability in budget preparation and administration
- High level judgment and initiative in problem resolution of complex and sensitive issues
- Committed to and performs quality work contributing to the strategic goals of the organization.
- Assumes responsibility and accountability for actions and demonstrates a commitment to quality and excellence.
- Identifies issues, performs preventative actions and analysis, identifies alternatives, implements planning, evaluates outcomes and communicates results.
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and a high level of confidentiality.
- Provides degree of initiation and ability to work well in a team structure
- Provides direction to the nursing team in all aspects of resident care and with staff
- Communicates regulations to the nursing team and monitors compliance
- Provides direction and support to team in all program areas (i.e.: Skin Care and Wound Management, Falls Prevention, Incontinence Management, Infection Prevention and Control, etc.)
- Initiates and/or directs timely investigations of allegations of resident abuse and neglect
- Understands and manages within the collective agreements
- Collaborates with the nursing managers, quality risk manager, and others to evaluate quality and risk indicators
- Promotes and supports continuing education
- Stays current and complies with all health and safety duties and responsibilities as defined by the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Employment Standards Act, and internal policies and procedures
- Participates in decision making at the senior management level
- Shares on call responsibilities with other staff on the leadership team.
- Other job-related duties as required

**Position**: Permanent full-time, Monday to Friday; flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.
