Reporting to the President & CEO and is a member of the Leadership Teamthe V.P. Nursing provides visionary and progressive leadership and strategic management through the establishment of a collaborative interdisciplinary practice environment, assuring overall excellence in quality practice initiatives and Nursing programs that assure overall excellence congruent with the Mission, Vision and Values of the Home and Philosophy of the Nursing Department.
- Develops strategic direction, annual goals and objectives of the Nursing Department by identifying current and emerging resident care needs, work plans, clinical plans, educational plans, and quality and research plans relating to Resident outcomes that support the Mission and Strategic Direction of the Home.
- Delegates responsibilities to appropriately qualified staff, according to applicable legislation and standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Promotes and acts as a liaison, demonstrating cooperation and coordination of services/programs with community agencies and other health care providers.
- Negotiates all nursing services and supply contracts with vendors.
- Leads in development and implementation of resident care standards, policies and procedures and works with the nursing team in implementing best practice guidelines and specialized clinical services to ensure service excellence.
- Responsible for the compliance of provincial legislation and protocols, pertaining to resident careand responding to inquiries, directives and matters clinical in nature.
- Develops policies and best practices to ensure compliance with Long Term Care legislation and to standardize and streamline new and existing processes and systems.
- Accountable for the supply, control and safe keeping of drugs and narcotics, ensuring standard protocols are followed on all shifts and monitor competency for safe administration of treatments and documentation standards.
- Assumes overall coordination of the Admissions process, serving as liaison with Ontario Health at Home, file review and related decisions.
- Oversees the work of the RAI/MDS Coordinator, ensuring high risk indicators are addressed and managed.
- Coordinates and oversees all aspects of Infection Prevention and Control at St. Patrick’s Home.
- Coordinates all aspects of Nursing Restorative at St. Patrick’s Home.
- Oversees the work of the BSO team and program.
- Accountable for all Clinical Programs under the _Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021_, including directing the work of the associated Committees.
- Oversees, directs and delegates the work of the Nursing Team at St. Patrick’s Home of Ottawa.
- Oversees the work of the RN Clinical Educator, Admissions Clerk and Ward Clerks.
- Addresses complaints and concerns related to clinical nursing, Nursing programs and procedures relative to operation of the Department ensuring reporting time-lines are followed for all reporting requirements.
- Serves as primary clinical support, delivering reports and current information via 24hour summary, leadership report and ensuring reporting time-lines are followed for all reporting requirements.
- Conduct and delegate where appropriate clinical program evaluations.
- Determines educational needs and in conjunction with the AVP and HR coordinates education sessions for the department.
- Participates in human resource development through participation in hiring decisions, regular staff performance appraisals for Nursing Program staff and delegate where appropriate, attendance support and progressive discipline.
- Establishes, monitors and evaluates staffing patterns and work schedules and assignments that maximize continuity and consistency of care and staff retention.
- Assumes fiscal responsibility for operation of the Nursing Department including preparation and submission of an annual budget, monitoring departmental expenditures, identification and explanation of monthly variances, approval/processing of invoices.
- All other duties as assigned.
**EDUCATION OR EQUIVALENT KNOWLEDGE**
- Baccalaureate in Nursing Science with additional Leadership education.
- Minimum of 5 years nursing experience with 5 years nursing administration experience
- Current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Demonstrated leadership ability in working within interdisciplinary environment.
- Knowledge of long-term care facility administration, including: accreditation standards, _Fixing Long Term Care Act, 2021_ and the RAI-MDS process.
