**Basic Function**: The Manager of Analytics and AI will play a leading role in transforming the use of data, modelling, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) across the Toronto Zoo. This position will identify, implement, and sustain advanced analytics solutions to support enhanced decision making and process efficiency throughout the organization. The role requires both leadership expertise as well a strong body of technical expertise in the fields of data science, data analytics, performance measurement and information management. This position will assist and provide support in implementing the approved Strategic Plan.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provides leadership in the coordination of projects and initiatives related to data analytics, AI, and machine learning that contribute to the achievement of strategic priorities to meet the Toronto Zoo’s Strategic Plan.
- Supervises, motivates and trains assigned staff regarding data science and analytics to encourage effective teamwork, high quality of work, continuous learning, and a culture of innovation.
- Leverages new visualization and analytics technologies to drive continuous improvement and data driven decision making.
- Manages the collection and reporting of performance metrics associated with organizational goals and implement strategies to track and report on performance measures to senior management, using appropriate data collection, analytics, and visualization tactics.
- Fosters internal and external public, private and academic sector partnerships to collect, analyze and evaluate data on behalf of the Toronto Zoo.
- Keeps abreast of current and emerging trends in analytics, AI and machine learning and advises on necessary upgrades and enhancements to the Zoo’s systems and related equipment.
- Manages and prepares Operating cost centre and Capital budget requests.
- Makes a commitment to abide by and remain familiar with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) standards and related policies.

**Qualifications**:

- University degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science or an equivalent discipline.
- Strong technical background with experience in data science, data analytics, information management and/or performance measurement
- 5-7 years progressive related experience, 2 at the supervisory level.
- Must have five years of advanced, hands-on experience in data analytics, Artificial Intelligence and or machine learning.
- Experience in a unionized environment is preferred.
- Project Management (PMI) Certificate, Microsoft (MCSE) Certifications, experience with Microsoft environment (including Business Central, Office 365) an asset.
- Knowledge of research, surveying, data analysis and visualization, statistical methodologies, and predictive modelling techniques
- Ability to build effective relationships and be a positive liaison with the City of Toronto and other public, private, and academic sector partners.
- A proven ability to effectively lead and motivate staff and to lead work teams.
- Possess experience in the preparation and administration of an operating budget.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, along with strong communications skills including excellent writing skills and the ability to speak confidently in public.
- Must have a working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and WHMIS legislation.
- Must be able to deal with staff and public in a courteous and efficient manner.
- Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
- Capable of meeting the physical demands of the position.
