The Innovation Governance and Evaluation Unit is responsible for ensuring that the agencies reporting to TI (Alberta Innovates and Alberta Enterprise Corporation) are well governed and meet governance and accountability requirements as legislated through the Alberta Public Agencies Governance Act (APAGA) and agencies’ respective legislation. As well, the unit establishes best practices related to performance measurement and evaluation to ensure that innovation-related programs, strategies, initiatives, and agencies are meeting Ministry priorities effectively and efficiently.

**Salary**: $3,147.32 - $4,235.37 /Bi-weekly ($82,145 - $110,543 /Annually)

**Role Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Director, Innovation Governance and Evaluation, the Manager, Governance provides leadership and expertise to ensure that the agencies reporting to the Ministry meet governance and accountability requirements specified under APAGA and agency-specific legislation in order for them to deliver on their mandates. The Manager and its team also serve as the contact for agencies, department, ministries and stakeholders for corporate-level questions, issues and concerns related to agency governance, accountability, legislation, government policy and directions, and strategic planning and reporting.

**Responsibilities**:
Some of the role’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Managing the relationships with the agencies to understand and support their work as well as provide them with expertise, services, and resources to enable their compliance with governance and accountability requirements as specified in legislation and policy.
- Working closely with branch and ministry colleagues to ensure that the department’s policies, programs and directions are incorporated into the work of the agencies and collaborating with agencies to ensure that their work supports ministry direction.
- Developing, implementing, evaluating and continually enhancing guidelines and processes pertaining to governance and accountability requirements (e.g., public disclosure, conflict of interest, board orientation, board member evaluations, intergovernmental agreements, mandate and roles, etc.), ensuring alignment with relevant legislation and policies.
- Reviewing, analyzing, and developing recommendations for agency business plans and annual reports to support alignment with legislative and policy requirements and in alignment with ministry and Government of Alberta (GoA) direction.
- Managing the board member recruitment process to ensure compliance with GoA practices, including working with agencies, liaising with the Public Service Commission and department executive and developing recommendations for the Minister and cabinet.
- Leading the development of agreements with Alberta Innovates and Alberta Enterprise Corporation in collaboration with agencies and with department staff and monitoring the agreements to ensure compliance with the deliverables.
- Responding to requests for agency corporate-related information (e.g., mandate, roles, finances, agreements) originating from the Minister's office and throughout the Ministry, other ministries, and external stakeholders.
- Providing effective leadership and mentoring to staff reporting to the Manager
