Ottawa, Canada CADTH Full time

**Strategic Partner, Indigenous Engagement and Partnerships**
**Status: Full time, Permanent**
**Location: Ottawa / Toronto, ON (Hybrid or within Canada)**
**Closing date: Open until filled**
**Salary range: $103,148- $124,811 per year**
******
**Background**
We realize as a Settler Organization that we have much to learn and do, and that creating space for and then listening to Indigenous voices as we work towards reconciliation and engagement is of paramount importance. To help advance these commitments, CADTH will continue to build on the efforts of a highly engaged employee led Indigenous Initiatives working group and has retained the services of an Indigenous owned and operated consulting firm. CADTH’s new 3-year strategic plan builds on CADTH’s commitment to reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples.

To transition from commitment to commitment and action, CADTH has created a Strategic Partner, Indigenous Engagement and Partnerships role. This key organizational position will help us engage in discussion internally, to learn together, and to support engagement with First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples, governments, organizations, and communities. We are growing to understand the importance of reciprocity and are committed to invest ourselves and our time to build relationships.

Importantly, while we have thought carefully about the accountabilities of this role, we realize the individual in this role may help us identify other, more important priorities and activities by creating space and then listening to Indigenous Peoples. This is what we hope will ultimately shape our journey of reconciliation and path forward.

**Position Highlights**:

- Provide leadership and guidance rooted in lived experience to support a culture of truth, openness, and safety, while advising CADTH’s declaration of reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples, communities, governments and organizations and to develop and continually revise an action plan that is aligned with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action, the Calls to Justice of Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women and Girls, the Report of the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples, and the In Plain Sight Report.
- Guide the enhancement and growth of the organization’s first Indigenous Engagement Strategy by suggesting and supporting the establishment of relationships with Indigenous Elders, Knowledge-holders, leaders, and groups to facilitate an ongoing exchange of information and learning in support of reconciliation.
- Grow CADTH's understanding and ability to ensure reciprocity in every relationship and engagement effort by beginning to address Indigenous challenges in the health care system with a goal of supporting enhanced capacity.
- Due to the at times difficult nature of being in this role, the incumbent will be invited to participate in a team of committed individuals, some of whom are Indigenous and some of whom are Settlers, from other organizations advancing their own reconciliation and engagement efforts.
- Provide thoughtful and strategic leadership in the development, review, and implementation of internal policies, procedures, and processes to reduce and wherever possible eliminate the potential to perpetuate anti-Indigenous racism, systemic racism, and colonization.
- Provide advice and guidance to the Executive team about ways to enhance a culture of safety, address anti-Indigenous/systemic racism, and support greater awareness and incorporation of Indigenous perspectives and ways of knowing across the organization. This may include advice regarding recruitment and retention, employee training and awareness needs, and inclusion of Indigenous perspectives and ways of knowing into CADTH’s work, working together with CADTH’s Evidence Standards team.
- Collaborate and work closely with the Strategic Partner, Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) to incorporate an intersectional lens.

**Knowledge, Skills, and Experience**:

- A person of Indigenous Ancestry with a strong Indigenous cultural safety and anti-racist lens and pursuant to Section 24 of the Ontario Human Rights Act, preference will be given to applicants of Indigenous Ancestry.
- Have recent and related experience negotiating and facilitating discussions, leading to consensus with diverse groups such as Indigenous communities and organizations, senior managers, and decision influencers to build and grow engagement.
- Ability to navigate and translate both Indigenous and non-Indigenous worldviews, especially as these pertain to health and healthcare.
- Deep understanding of Canadian colonial impacts on Indigenous people in social and health contexts.
- Awareness of the various First Nations, Inuit and Métis governance systems and processes.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples, Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the Calls to J
