Why is this role important?
- The Manager leads the Indigenous Health team and is responsible for the ongoing strategic development, management, and implementation of Indigenous Health strategy at CIHI. The Manager reports to the Director of Population and Indigenous Health and Classifications and Terminologies and will work collaboratively and cross-functionally to lead the strategic activities in the CIHI Indigenous Health Strategy including but not limited to: communications; engagement and partnerships; cultural responsiveness training for CIHI staff; the implementation of Indigenous data governance for CIHI; and support for analysis and capacity building activities with Indigenous partners. The manager is responsible for leading, managing and evaluating all activities, workload and staff related to the portfolio and establishing and maintaining strong partnerships both internally and externally.
- What you'll do
- 1. Responsible for the planning and execution of the CIHI Indigenous Health Strategy in four key areas including engagement and development of Indigenous partnerships, implementing Indigenous data governance policies at CIHI, cultural responsiveness training for CIHI staff, and analytical & capacity building work with Indigenous partners.
- 2. Works with the team to identify, plan, monitor and execute ongoing engagement and partnership activities across the three Indigenous groups supporting follow up, and documentation. Develops and maintains working relationships with appropriate other external partners, which may include provincial and federal governments, provincial organizations, research groups, and others.
- 3. Ensures the smooth implementation of a governance approach for the Indigenous health portfolio at CIHI including corporate governance structures, data and analytical release policies, corporate standards for engagement and other processes. This will involve sound knowledge of CIHI data holdings and the ability to work cross functionally and collaborate with many areas in CIHI.
- 4. Plans for and manages day-to-day operations ensuring that deliverables are met according to CIHI’s Operational Plan and budget and that relevant partners and CIHI departments are consulted as appropriate. Participates as a member of the branch and CIHI’s overall management team. Provides strategic advice, makes connections among projects, and provides feedback on project interim and final deliverables. Identifies potential risks and develops contingency plans.
- 5. Manages staff and provides leadership. The Manager is responsible to provide clear direction, effectively delegate and monitor performance results, motivate and develop others, support the team through change, make decisions that balance the best interests of the team, organization and partners and lead by example.

- What you'll bring to the table
- Graduate degree in a relevant field (i.e., Indigenous Studies, Health Sciences, Health Policy, Population Health) or equivalent education/experience.
- Minimum of 5 years related professional experience with 3 years of management experience and/or proven leadership and management skills in a matrix environment.
- Expert knowledge of and experience with the social and political context of First Nations, Inuit and Métis health and health data.
- Knowledge and experience of the collection and use of data, data governance, data standards, and data analysis.
