**Job Description: Safety & Engagement Outreach Workers - Overnight**

HIV/AIDS Regional Services (HARS), in partnership with Street Health Centre, a part of Kingston Community Health Centre (KCHC) is working in solidarity to provide twenty-four hours a day, seven-days-a-week drop-in program, rest accommodations, harm reduction services within an Integrated Services Hub and co-located Consumption & Treatment Service ran by KCHC. HARS Kingston is inviting you to join our multidisciplinary, heart-led harm reduction team to provide dignified and compassionate care for our most resilient community members, many of whom experience housing instability and homelessness, as well as substance use and mental health challenges.

The Integrated Services Hub is based on the following 5 Core Pillars:

4. Wellness

5. Cultural Safety

**JOB DESCRIPTION**

Overnight Safety & Engagement Outreach Workers will assist in maintaining and improving the safety and well-being of the clients, staff, visitors, and the surrounding neighbourhood, and support the proper functioning of the Integrated Care Hub.

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Meaningfully engage with the people we serve in an unbiased way at the ICH and assist with managing order and building trusting relationships with all clients.
- Perform foot patrols of outside grounds and surrounding neighbourhood areas to provide safety.
- Monitor activity surrounding the ICH building and grounds.
- Issue No Trespass notices as warranted, in consultation with the management team.
- Log patrols and incident reports.
- Engage with the neighbours (residents and businesses) and perform outreach activities to improve relations with the community.
- Recommend improvements to operational maintenance and security.
- Respond to medical emergencies and activate emergency response.
- Complete community cleanups (disposing of drug paraphernalia, garbage, and debris)
- Perform, assist, and direct ground and facility maintenance activities in support of the proper operation of the ICH building and associated systems.
- Assist in arranging and supervising small outdoor work/social programs with the people we serve.
- Handle various materials and assist with the movement of equipment and other items.
- Other duties as assigned.

**SKILLS, ABILITIES & WORK DEMANDS**
- Ability to engage compassionately but effectively with vulnerable adults with complex mental health and substance use issues.
- Ability to perform multiple safety foot patrols of up to 2.5 km per patrol.
- Able to perform essential duties, including frequent walking, bending, lifting and manipulating objects (up to 20kg/45lbs), products and small equipment.
- Willingness to intervene effectively in and de-escalate conflicts, demonstrate emotional control, maintain objectivity, and use good judgment.
- Ability to maintain a positive relationship with the public.
- Good communication skills and client-focused.
- Knowledge of risks related to substance use.
- Able to maintain confidentiality, as well as sound judgment and good boundaries.
- Ability to work well with others and on your own.
- Comfortable interacting with people who are actively using substances.
- Open-minded, eager, and willing to learn as well as suggest new things.
- CPR C/First Aid certified.
- Maintain accurate records/documentation and report to the management team.
- Basic knowledge and skills with hand and small power tools.
- Able to work supporting a seven-day schedule.

**WAGE: $22.50**
- Full-time hours: 37.5 per week // _**Must be available to work overnights, 12-hour shifts on a 2-2-3 rotation over two weeks (meaning 2-3 shifts, followed by 2-3 days off).**_
