**Job Purpose**

The primary objective of the H&S Coordinator is to promote and maintain a safe working construction job by implementing and overseeing Zgemi's COR-certified comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures. This pivotal role focuses on minimizing the risk of accidents, injuries, and occupational hazards for all personnel involved in the job site. The Health & Safety coordinator is critical in fostering a culture of safety and well-being within Zgemi through proactive risk assessments, incident investigations, and continuous improvement efforts.

**Duties & Responsibilities**
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures that comply with COR, applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Conduct safety training programs for employees, contractors, and subcontractors to raise awareness about potential hazards, safe work practices, and emergency procedures.
- Perform regular inspections of construction sites, equipment, and processes to identify potential hazards, non-compliance issues, and opportunities for improvement. Conduct internal safety audits to assess the effectiveness of the COR safety programs and initiatives.
- Conduct risk assessments and job hazard analyses to identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies. Ensure appropriate control measures are in place to minimize or eliminate workplace hazards.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions. Maintain incident records and provide recommendations for preventing similar occurrences in the future.
- Monitor changes, ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, building codes, and industry standards, and implement necessary adjustments to policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with safety committees, JHSC team or representative groups to address safety concerns, promote employee engagement, and facilitate open lines of communication regarding safety matters.
- Develop and implement emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, first aid protocols, and coordination with local emergency services. Conduct drills and exercises to test and improve emergency preparedness.
- Foster a positive safety culture within the organization by promoting a proactive approach to safety, encouraging employee participation, and recognizing and rewarding safe behaviours.
- Maintain accurate safety records, including incident reports, inspection findings, training documentation, and safety performance metrics using Site Docs and MS Office. Prepare regular safety reports for management, highlighting key trends, areas of improvement, and compliance status.
- Evaluate and select contractors based on their safety performance and adherence to safety standards. Monitor contractor activities to ensure compliance with safety requirements.
- Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging safety technologies. Continuously evaluate and improve safety programs, policies, and procedures to enhance the overall safety performance of the construction company.

**Working Conditions**
- In Office and on Construction Sites, conducting inspections, monitoring safety practices, and engaging with workers and contractors to ensure compliance with safety protocols with variable working hours depending on project requirements.
- Health & Safety coordinators are exposed to noise, dust, varying temperatures, and potentially hazardous materials. H&S coordinator must adapt to these environments while following appropriate safety measures. H&S coordinators are role models and are expected to follow safety protocols, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- The role may involve walking, climbing, and maneuvering through construction sites to conduct inspections and monitor safety practices. H&S Coordinators should be physically fit and capable of performing these activities.
- Construction projects often operate on tight schedules, and health and safety issues need to be addressed promptly. H&S coordinators may need to be available outside of regular working hours to respond to emergencies or urgent safety matters.
