**About the Univerity Libraries**:
McMaster’s libraries are active spaces with upwards of 18,000 students, faculty and staff visiting our physical locations each day during peak term periods. For many students, we are their preferred “third space,” the critically important communal learning place where students spend time when they are not at home or in the classroom (Oldenburg, 1989). Faculty and staff interact with our content and services regularly as part of their teaching and research lives. With such high levels of engagement across the broader university community, we recognize an immediate need for assistance in monitoring and adapting our workforce, services, staff, and support methods to meet the university’s diverse needs.

McMaster’s University Library (MUL) aspires to be a catalyst of intellectual activity for the University and its many diverse communities. Through its many programs, the University Library supports the University’s research and teaching mission by advancing knowledge and discovery, inspiring creativity, and building community. The Library delivers innovative and inclusive services, welcoming spaces, and exemplary collections to accelerate research, enhance learning and improve the user experience.

The separately administered Health Sciences Library (HSL) plays a central role in supporting health research and promoting student learning on campus. The HSL’s commitment to lifelong learning has resulted in one of the most sought-after learning and collaboration spaces on campus.

Together, the University Library and Health Sciences Library employ approximately 120 permanent FTE staff as well as 80 student assistants, post-doctoral fellows, interns, and coop students.

**Job Summary**

Reporting to the University Librarian, with joint reports to the Director of Health Sciences Library and the Equity and Inclusion Office, the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility (DEIA) Strategist will help build a framework of policies, practices, programs, and relationships to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility across McMaster’s libraries.

Collaborating with the Library’s DEIA Committee and other stakeholders, they will lead conversations and build consensus. They will often be called upon to create, deliver and/or evaluate programs and other initiatives aligned with the libraries’ commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.

Depending on the project, the Strategist will assume the role of consultant, advocate, navigator, facilitator, project manager or collaborator.
The Strategist will fulfill their duties in a manner that reflects the diverse experiences and interests of equity deserving groups (EDGs) and acknowledges and honours Indigenous self-determination and ways of knowing.

**Accountabilities**:

- Support the recruitment, orientation, retention, advancement, and on-going engagement of members of the libraries’ workforces who identify as members of an equity-deserving group in support of building a safe and inclusive environment where diversity is celebrated.
