Community Resources Coordinator

The Community Resources Coordinator is responsible for the dual leadership of Sydney Community Church North Side Community Family Services and The Salvation Army North Sydney Thrift Store. The purpose of this innovative role is to be a transforming influence while caring for the spiritual and social needs of the North Side of Cape Breton.
Reporting to the CFS Program Supervisor, The Community Resources Coordinator actively contributes to the Sydney CC Thrift Store leadership team and Pathway of Hope team led by Sydney CC Community Ministries Officer. Working in a team environment is critical to the success of this role. Planning and supervision will include relevant staff or volunteers, as well as the development and maintenance of community contacts, partners, and collaborators.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Operations**
- Direct all operations of the store to meet sales targets and control expenses while managing customer service standards.
- Supervise and as necessary participate in sorting and tagging merchandise, unloading donations, stocking shelves, and performing cash transactions.
- Plan store layout to attract customers, including window displays and merchandise displays, decides on in-store promotions and auctions; ensure attractiveness of the store through ''Tidy Maintenance."
- Maintain a high level of customer service and create an attractive environment for customers.
- Determine and maintain appropriate stock levels based on spot checks of the store and reviewing weekly sales records.
- Responsible for supervising a team of employees and volunteers to ensure standards in sales, customer service, merchandizing, marketing, and public relations are achieved.
- Address customer concerns, suggestions and complaints as needed.
- Ensure accuracy in the completion of all customer transactions.
- Implement inventory controls: retrieve, sort, appropriately price and discard or recycle any stale or un-saleable items on an ongoing basis; seek to protect the store from inventory shrinkage by close visual monitoring.
- Manage North Sydney TS Clothe-A-Family program.
**Client Services**
- Conducts client intake assessments; determining the clients’ immediate needs and provides appropriate support. Including, but not limited to
- Evaluation of client/protection issues
- Referral to community partners
- Referral to POH case worker
- Scotian Glen Camping ministries
- Salvation Army Heat Fund Application
- Christmas Assistance Programs
- Identifies when the client needs to be referred to the CFS Program supervisor for complex family services support.
- Identifies client spiritual needs; provides appropriate support including prayer and connecting with Sydney Community Church spiritual care.
- Maintains confidentiality and keeps accurate client files and statistical records.
- Contribute to the North Side Christmas campaign in partnership with Christmas Cheer Committee.
- Organize Victoria County Christmas Program as directed by CFS Program Supervisor.
- Speak into the development of The Salvation Army North Side Community Ministries.
**Human Resources**
- Conduct appropriate ongoing staff and volunteer training for all aspects of merchandise handling and North Side Community Ministries program implementation.
- Provide direction and support to those supervised so that they may develop following the annual PEAC process.
- Prepare, post, and maintain work schedules for those supervised.
- Work with other Salvation Army programs to deliver emergency and disaster services as assigned by the Corps Officer or Community Ministries Officer.
**Communication**
- Communicate any maintenance issues to supervisor in a timely manner.
- Communicate during scheduled meetings with CFS Program supervisor, Thrift Store leadership team, and Pathway of Hope team to ensure mission effectiveness, consistent adherence to Ministry Unit Store Policies/Promotions and for support as needed.
- Utilize TSA financial systems and client databases to accurately communicate and document relevant information.
**Health and Safety**
- Work in compliance with Provincial Act respecting Labor Standards and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- May provide advice, make recommendations and improvements, and assist with the development of company policies/guidelines/handbooks as it relates to health and safety.
- Ensure that the equipment, materials, and protective devices as prescribed (OH&SA) are provided and maintained in good condition.
- Ensure that all staff and volunteers are aware of emergency procedures and are prepared to implement them immediately as necessary.
- Ensure that proper procedures are followed in the event of a workplace injury or illness, conducting incident investigations when required.
- Perform workplace inspections as required.
- Participate in the supervision of Early and Safe Return to Work plans where applicable.
