We are hiring for an exciting new opportunity for a 1-year Alumni Engagement Officer role to support our Faculty of Science You will play a pivotal role on the Alumni Engagement team to meet the University’s alumni engagement objectives, with a particular focus on the Faculty of Science’s alumni community. As a results-oriented alumni engagement professional with the drive and determination to succeed, you will develop and manage virtual and in person programming, as well as volunteer and recognition programs for the Faculty’s alumni around the world.

The Faculty of Science at McMaster is one of the largest among Canadian universities, with more than 6,800 undergraduate and 600 graduate students. More than 1,400 degrees are granted each year, with graduates joining more than 33,000 Science alumni who live and work around the world. Science has the largest undergraduate enrolment of McMaster's six Faculties and Schools and faculty deliver foundational courses to thousands of other students from across the university.

Established as a stand-alone Faculty in 1967, Science has grown to eight departments and schools: Biology, Chemistry & Chemical Biology, Geography & Earth Sciences, Interdisciplinary Science, Kinesiology, Mathematics & Statistics, Physics & Astronomy and Psychology, Neuroscience & Behavior

Students, faculty and staff promote scientific literacy and understanding through dozens of outreach initiatives that bring science into the community and welcome the public onto campus.

**Job Summary**

Responsible for providing high-quality, meaningful opportunities for alumni to maintain positive relationships with the University by providing programs that achieve the goals of the Faculty of Science, McMaster University, University Advancement, and the McMaster Alumni Association. This includes supporting the Faculty of Science; involving alumni; communicating with alumni; recognizing alumni achievements; providing services and benefits for alumni; and involving current McMaster students. Responsible for working towards achieving all goals above with a specific focus on an assigned portfolio. Due to the nature of this position some evening and week-end work as well as some travel will be required.

**Accountabilities**
- Responsible for the recruitment, orientation, training, recognition, and on-going program coordination of volunteer programs. Volunteer Management experience is required.
- Complete an annual needs assessment and recommend an action plan for review. Provide input into the development of the plans and objectives.
- Evaluate on-going alumni engagement programs within portfolio and recommend modifications and improvements.
- Implement and maintain the program budget for portfolio. Create financial projections and adjust the program budget throughout the fiscal year.
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee events involving portfolio alumni, students, community members, faculty, staff and University senior administration.
- Coordinate all activities as appropriate with other University and University Advancement functions, mainly, development, communication and public affairs, advancement services and advancement work in the academic Faculties.
- Create and produce printed materials, both conventional and electronic, to be distributed to McMaster’s ever-growing community of alumni.
- Represent the University, the Faculty, and the Alumni Association through correspondence, both paper and electronic, phone and in-person contact. This includes managing alumni concerns and complaints.
- Develop, update and deliver presentations and represent the University, the Faculty and the Alumni Association in various public-speaking environments.
