**The salary range for this position is**:
**Recruitment range: $69,052- $76,129** starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.

**Performance range: starting salary to max of $89,791** is available through annual performance increases.
- Job SummaryThe Vice President Research and Innovation (VPRI) portfolio includes the Office of the Vice-President Research and Innovation (OVPRI), Strategic Research Initiatives (SRI) Unit, Office of Research Services, Animal Care Services, Research Partnerships and Knowledge Mobilization (RPKM) Unit, and responsibility for UVic research centres and research entities. The OVPRI provides oversight and guidance for UVic’s research agenda at the institutional level, including setting strategic research priorities and leading key initiatives to ensure that UVic research continues to grow and prosper. The OVPRI staff support the VPRI, Associate Vice-Presidents Research and all the activities of the portfolio to accomplish the missions and goals set out in the University strategic plan and individual unit plans. Reporting to the Manager, Research Agreements, the Research Agreements Facilitator (RAF) is responsible for the review of University external research funding agreements and agreements related to research and the use of intellectual property created at or by the University. Responsibilities include the preparation, interpretation and negotiation of contracts, as well as administering and implementing the University’s policies and guidelines relating to research and intellectual property.

In addition, this position liaises and communicates with contracting agencies and supports internal communication regarding University policy, guidelines and procedures.
- Job RequirementsAn undergraduate degree with a minimum of 3 years experience in contracts review and drafting, or an equivalent combination of training, education and/or experience may be considered. A paralegal certificate would be an asset.

In addition, this position requires: demonstrated experience in contract negotiation with related experience and knowledge of the legal framework of a contract, including familiarity with legal terms and concepts applicable to research contracting. Experience with international agreements and assessing types of intellectual property, rights and risks associated with ownership and use arrangements will be considered assets.

Preference may be given to those with excellent database managements skills; contract negotiation skills with significant related experience, negotiation courses and/or certificate; and a knowledge of university policies covering critical areas for contracts/agreements such as Intellectual Property, Liability, Insurance, etc.
