**Biochemistry Junior Scientist (Downstream Purification)**

**Key Responsibilities**
- Support carrying out a diverse range of laboratory-based activities on biopolymer extraction and purification from bacterial biomass.
- Conduct research on methods for biopolymer extraction and purification.
- Conduct sample characterization using standard analytical instruments such as high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gel permeation Chromatography (GPC), and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR).
- Conduct assays such as SDS-PAGE, Bradford total protein, etc.
- Perform basic operations on laboratory equipment including but not limited to centrifuges, freeze-dryers, pH meter, analytical balances, moisture analyzer.
- Perform analysis as per standard operating procedures (SOPs), and keep all records and notebooks in good order.
- Assist in scaling up viable extraction methods from bench scale to pilot scale and commercial scale.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Perform laboratory housekeeping activities including monitoring and maintaining laboratory supplies.
- Active participation in troubleshooting problems and communicating status in a timely manner.
- Prepare, analyze, and present data to the downstream team.
- Assist in report writing and project management tasks.
- Other duties as assigned or required.

**Qualifications and skills**
- Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry or chemical engineering with specialization in biochemical processes. M.Sc. or M.A.Sc. is optional.
- Minimum of 12 months of laboratory experience. Experience with macromolecule extraction and biomolecule characterization required. Some experience with organic chemistry preferred.
- Comfortable and experienced in working with chemicals such as organic solvents, strong acids, and strong bases in a laboratory setting.
- Ability to work independently with mínimal guidance and supervision.
- Effective oral and written communication with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Able to comply with health and safety guidelines, quality assurance policies, and defined procedures.
- Comfortable with a fast-paced and self-directed work environment. Ability to organize, prioritize and manage samples across multiple projects.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
