**Position overview**

Reporting to the Director, Climate and Environment, the **Manager, Archaeology** is a strategic leadership role crucial to the development, oversight, and execution of YVR’s archaeological and cultural resource management programs. This position is responsible for creating and driving strategy, leading cross-functional teams, and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks.

The position is responsible for overseeing all archaeological assessments and fieldwork, which includes development, maintenance, and activities that involve disturbing the ground. Acting as a liaison with Musqueam Indian Band and local stakeholder groups, this role ensures communication and collaboration in a way that protects archaeological resources and supports sustainable growth.

**Key responsibilities include**:

- Providing expert professional advice and direction in archaeological resource planning and management for all development activities on Sea Island.
- Conducting audits, such as field inspections, assessments of areas, and archaeological sites, particularly at the outset of projects or in the event of unexpected discoveries.
- Preparing and assisting in the completion of cultural resources survey reports, data entry, impact assessments, and permitting activities for assigned projects on Sea Island when needed as well as coordinating archaeology projects to ensure regulatory and environmental compliance and efficient resource management, including scheduling, staff allocation, technical approach development, and the involvement of subcontractors.
- Develops and implements YVR’s Archaeological Program, outlining objectives and timelines.
- Represent the Airport Authority and speak on its behalf at public meetings, information sessions and conferences as well as consult with industry, tenants, public, government, other Airport Authority departments and others on environmental and archaeological initiatives.
- Lead a team of professionals, including analysts, specialists, assistants and external consultants: direct and manage external archaeology consultants, including their selection, engagement, and ensuring timely project deliverables.

**Key qualifications include**:

- Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or a related field. A Master’s degree or a professional designation is preferred.
- A minimum of 8 years recent relevant experience in archaeological or environmental resource management, preferably related to infrastructure, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience plus a minimum of three years leadership experience managing a team, along with at least 2 years of project or operations management experience.
- Proven experience working with xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) or other Indigenous communities.
- Experience liaising with regulatory bodies with a thorough understanding of pertinent legislation and legal frameworks applicable to federal crown-held lands, ensuring all archaeological activities are compliant.
- A current and valid BC driver’s license is a requirement.
- Strong written/verbal communication and presentation skills along with strong conflict resolution, mediation and negotiation skills.

**Salary Range **:$100,640 to $144,670 per annum, based on 37.5-hour work week. This is individually tailored to reflect your unique experience, qualifications and internal equity. Performance-Based Incentive: Eligible for an annual bonus target at 15% of your annual salary.
