**Job Summary**:
The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for casual/non-union employees and unionized support staff, provides human resources generalist functions including recruitment and selection, employee and labour relations, collective agreement administration, job analysis and job descriptions, performance evaluations, and human resources information system management.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Advises and assists administration and employees on interpretation and administration of collective agreements, policies and programs.
- Member of a team to re-negotiate collective agreements for assigned groups.
- Guides and monitors performance reviews and assists administration in counselling employees on performance improvement plans and issues affecting work performance.
- Coordinates return-to-work plans/accommodations for employees on long-term disability and Worker’s Compensation plans.
- Assists with workplace investigations.
- Works closely with the Payroll Department to provide accurate information regarding benefits and wages.
- Assists administrators with determining allocation of hours for employees from special budgets.
- Develops job bulletins and oversees job postings and external advertising for job vacancies through multiple on-line platforms.
- Receives, pre-screens, and processes applicants for employment, and interviews and checks references for appropriate applicants for specific vacancies when requested.
- Keeps accurate records of all staff placements, leaves of absence and term appointments.
- Manages the employee records data management software for assigned groups.
- Coordinates and assists in training and the orientation of new employees.
- Develops and organizes professional development opportunities.
- Drafts contracts and letters related to hire, transfer, displacement seniority and exits from the Division.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director.

**Qualifications, Skills and Abilities.**
- Qualifications:_
- A related university degree or a certificate in Human Resources Management.
- CPHR designation is an asset.
- Minimum 2 to 5 years’ staffing and recruiting, wage administration and employee relations experience.
- Minimum 2 to 5 years’ labour relations experience in a multi-unionized environment, including grievance and arbitration processes and Collective Agreement administration
- Experience preparing for labour negotiations an asset.
- Experience providing guidance to supervisory personnel on employee performance, disciplinary matters and workplace investigations.
- Experience providing information to employees regarding benefits, policies, collective agreement provisions and relevant legislation.
- Experience working within a Human Resources Information System (HRIS).
- Experience working in a large urban school division preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable employment and human rights legislation.
- Skills and Abilities:_
- High degree of initiative, organizational skills, time management ability, analytical and decision-making skills, and able to work with minimum supervision.
- Good public relations and communication skills with the ability to work cooperatively and harmoniously with colleagues, management, and to deal effectively with the public.
- Respect confidentiality of work.
