The Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Services has significant oversight and involvement in the public security and emergency services through its various divisions and operations. The department is responsible for the administration of law enforcement, correctional services, policing and police oversight and public safety. The Ministry supports crime prevention and restorative justice programs, as well as programs and services to support victims of crime, including those affected by domestic violence and human trafficking. The Ministry also coordinates large scale emergency and disaster prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery programs and initiatives.

**Role Responsibilities**:
The Training Academy (TA) promotes excellence through training and continual professional development by establishing training standards, and in partnership with stakeholders, facilitating the delivery of evidence-based curriculum. The TA is responsible for design, development and delivery of induction training programs to peace officers in Alberta.

Reporting to the Director of Peace Officer Training and Standards, the Manager of Training Standards is responsible for coordinating the maintenance of peace officer training and training initiatives with GOA and non-GOA stakeholders and assists in the planning, design, development, and delivery of peace officer training. This position is responsible for the development of certification and curriculum standards for investigative, firearms, control tactics and peace officer induction training provided by external partners (e.g.: municipalities, educational institutions).

The Manager Training Standards is responsible for ensuring equipment is maintained, updated and available for training sessions. This requires extensive coordination to meet a continuously changing course schedule due to availability of instructors, presenters, and facilities.

**Duties include**:

- Coordinating the planning, design, development, delivery and evaluation of training initiatives, joint training efforts and CPOIP (Community Peace Officer Induction Training) to ensure certification standards are met relative to content, delivery and instructor qualification.
- Development of training standards and review of externally delivered training programs/initiatives to ensure course content and delivery is consistently provided.
- Developing and maintaining collaborative and productive relationships and partnerships within the Ministry, across the GOA and with partnering agencies and municipalities for the implementation of a consistent standard approach for the design, delivery and evaluation of training initiatives.
- Responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of standard and accredited training initiatives to meet certification requirements to supporting the unit in achieving its goals.

**Qualifications**:
A minimum of a University Degree in a field related to the criminal justice system, supplemented by four years related experience.

Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.

Preference will be given to those with:

- Current or past experience in leading and inspiring teams in a law enforcement or related field setting.
- Demonstrated experience to lead large scale projects, including producing challenging deliverables in tight timelines.
- Knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design.
- Provincial Peace Officer I designation
