Position Overview:
- If you are an organized and creative planner who wants to inspire and coach youth aged 12-15 on what it means to be a good leader, this role is for you
The Building Youth Leadership Development (BYLD) Coordinator leads the City of Kitchener’s BYLD (pronounced build) program, a leader-in-training program.
- Prior to camp, the BYLD Coordinator works with the Summer Camp Coordination team to deliver leadership workshops to 100 participants. They organize BYLD placement assignments and prepare all BYLD manuals and program tools. During the summer, the BYLD coordinator supports site staff to ensure that the BYLD participants have opportunities to practice their learning and build their self-esteem and self-confidence as leaders.
- The BYLD Coordinator assists in organizing and supporting special guests and trips for camps.

**Employment**Dates**: May 5 - August 26, 2025
**Hours**per** week**: May 5 - May 23 at 10 hours/week; May 26 - August 26 at 35 hours/week
**Hours of work**: 7 hours/day, 8:15am-5:15pm (shifts may vary)
- Participation in evening and weekend BYLD training June 4, 5 and 7 and Leader training on June 14. **Please Note: ALL training in-person and online is required and mandatory to complete prior to start of program/camp.**
**Additional Information**:
- No work schedule June 30 and on statutory holidays(July 1 and August 4).
- Works in a variety of outdoor conditions.
- Office work required
**Responsibilities**:
- Provides program information and support to staff, participants, parents/caregivers.
- Reviews training plans to ensure program guidelines are met.
- Provides participant orientation sessions and ensures training material is prepared.
- Works with staff to ensure the delivery of safe, quality, and fun programs in accordance with City guidelines and to provide support and coordination for all BYLD participants.
- Performs regular site visits to observe BYLD participants.
- Works in collaboration with Neighbourhood Camps Assistant Coordinators to monitor and evaluate BYLD participants.
- Provides written evaluations and letters of program completion to BYLD participants.
- Coordinates the collection and maintenance of forms, logbooks, and volunteer hours of BYLD participants.
- Gathers related information and statistics; writes and submits reports including final reports prior to completion of the program.
- Takes action to deal with incidents, problems, emergencies and parent/caregiver concerns.
- Works with Summer Camp Coordination team to support the programming of special guests, outings and Adventure Playday.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
**Requirements**:
- Minimum grade 12 diploma preferred.
- A minimum of two seasons with camp or related children’s programming experience preferred.
- Minimum age requirement - must be at least 18 years of age or older by the first day of employment, unless otherwise specified
- Valid CPR Level "C" and Standard First Aid Certificate
- Provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check**at your own expense as a condition of employment issued after March 1, 2025.
- Access to reliable transportation is required
- Completion of Principles in Healthy Child Development training considered an asset.
- Employment is conditional upon; attendance at all training sessions, submission of required documentation/certification, adherence to the minimum age requirements and ability to meet the employment term.
- Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
