We currently have an opportunity for a **Full Time Child and Youth Worker.**

**Hours of Work**:MON-FRI, 0700-1500 FOR 2 WEEKS, 1500-2300 FOR TWO WEEKS (ROTATING)

**How Child and Youth Worker support our teams at Grand River Hospital**:
At Grand River Hospital, we exist to provide exceptional care through inspired people, innovative initiatives and strong partnerships in the communities we serve.

Reporting to the Clinical Manager of the Child & Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatry (CAIP) unit, you will work primarily in our inpatient services working with children & adolescents up to 17 years of age; and their families. As the successful incumbent you will work in collaboration with team members, families and other hospital and community service providers in providing patient care. You will provide therapeutic recreational and developmental programming in both individual and group settings, as well as provide assistance as assigned. You will participate in service committees and quality improvement initiatives as assigned.

**At Grand River Hospital, the Child and Youth Worker brings the following**:

- Minimum of Child & Youth Worker Diploma required
- Membership in the Ontario Association of Child and Youth Workers in good standing required
- 3-5 years experience in a mental health setting with demonstrated skills in working with children and adolescents and families required
- Excellent skills in recreational therapeutic life skills programming and group skills; experience co-leading groups required
- Knowledge of intake and assessment processes required
- Knowledge of children’s psycho-social development required
- Knowledge of family systems theory required
- Knowledge of approaches to treatment of mental illness
- Proven ability to design programming to meet group needs and lead therapeutic groups
- Excellent skills in de-escalation and crisis intervention
- Proven ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team along with other health care providers, community service and school board providers
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Grand River Hospital Mental Health & Addiction Program recovery & resiliency philosophy, comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety
- Participates in team building, service development and improvement activities striving to contribute to a healthy workplace environment
- Maintains and develops professional competence through ongoing professional development
- Excellent ability to practice independently using effective organizational, prioritization, problem solving and milieu management skills
- Flexible and adaptable
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must have be computer literate with good keyboarding skills
- Good attendance record
