MacEwan University is seeking a Student Advisor for a full-time 10-month non-recurring term opportunity with our kihêw waciston Indigenous Centre. Reporting to the Manager, you will contribute to the success of Indigenous learners at the University, and will focus on Indigenous student support, advising, retention and community engagement.

Key responsibilities include:

- Coordinating and implementing student support programs within kihêw waciston based on ongoing evaluation and best practice to increase student retention;
- Providing educational and career advice that includes assisting students in exploring educational options and making realistic academic and life goals;
- Maintaining a broad understanding of admission criteria, programs of study, program and institutional graduation rules, academic dates, academic regulations, and campus resources;
- Establishing positive relationships and maintain safe spaces for students that is reflective of Indigenous culture and knowledge, and removes barriers;
- Initiating, cultivating and providing perspective and awareness to academic and service areas within MacEwan encouraging culturally sensitive programming, policies and events;
- Mentoring the Indigenous Student Club according to Student Association guidelines and Indigenous principles of engagement;
- Facilitating and participating in events celebrating Indigenous knowledge, culture and heritage at MacEwan and in the broader Indigenous community;
- Building and maintaining relationships with external Indigenous communities, funders and educational authorities; and
- Maintaining student files and records.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities, within a post-secondary environment.
- Experience working with student databases and information systems.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
