Nipissing Serenity Hospice (NSH) is a 10-bed bilingual, residential hospice located in North Bay, Ontario serving the residents of the Nipissing and East Parry Sound Districts. The Hospice provides around the clock palliative care by an expert multi-disciplinary team in a peaceful setting for people of all ages at the end of life. Support is also extended to caregivers and families. At Nipissing Serenity Hospice we strive to ensure compassion, comfort and dignity at end of life.

Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the Volunteer and Support Coordinator provides leadership to the volunteers in the day-to-day operations of Nipissing Serenity Hospice, provides support to residents and families as needed, and implements and supervises the Grief and Bereavement Support Program for residents and their loved ones.
- Degree or diploma specializing in social work or a related field;
- Experience, training or certification in end-of-life care and/or grief and bereavement would be considered an asset;
- Previous experience in recruitment, training, leadership and supervision of volunteers;
- Previous experience in program development/evaluation;
- Sound knowledge of the philosophy of hospice care;
- Positive approach to hospice care and a demonstrated capacity for empathy;
- Understanding of the psychosocial dynamics of illness, loss, death and bereavement;
- Outstanding active listening skills;
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Problem-solving and conflict management skills;
- Public speaking/teaching skills around issues of loss, grief, death and dying;
- Commitment to teamwork and ability to collaborate effectively;
- Ability to work independently, to exercise sound judgement, to make appropriate decisions, and to accept responsibility for outcomes;
- Strong computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook;
- Provision of Police Record Check (Vulnerable Sector);

**KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY**
- Recruitment, placement, scheduling, management and evaluation of volunteers;
- Management of volunteer files and vulnerable sector checks;
- Coordination and implementation of Volunteer Training Program;
- Collaboration with Fund Development Coordinator for fundraising campaigns;
- Development of Volunteer Recognition Initiatives;
- Contribution to bi-annual hospice newsletter;
- Contribution to the care of residents and loved ones through psychosocial and emotional support, information sharing, individualized care-plan development, advocacy and facilitation of volunteer support;
- Coordination of bedside care, as requested/needed (alternative therapies, vigil, etc.);
- Coordination of Grief and Bereavement Support Programs (individual and/or group);
- Development of positive relationships with a range of community agencies and wellness service providers;
- Management of confidential records.

**RÉSUMÉ DU POSTE**

Sous la responsabilité du Directeur exécutif (DÉ), le coordinateur/la coordinatrice des bénévoles et du soutien (CBS) dirige les bénévoles dans le cadre des activités quotidiennes de la Maison Sérénité du Nipissing, offre un soutien aux résidents et aux familles au besoin, et met en œuvre et supervise le programme de soutien aux personnes en deuil pour les résidents et leurs proches.

**EXIGENCES DU POSTE**
- Diplôme ou baccalauréat spécialisé en travail social ou dans un domaine connexe;
- De l’expérience, de la formation, ou certifications en matière de soins de fin de vie et/ou de chagrin et de deuil serait considérée comme un atout;
- Expérience préalable du recrutement, de la formation, du leadership et de la supervision de bénévoles;
- Expérience antérieure en développement/évaluation de programmes;
- Bonne connaissance de la philosophie des soins palliatifs;
- Approche positive des soins palliatifs et capacité démontrée d’empathie;
- Compréhension de la dynamique psychosociale de la maladie, de la perte, de la mort et du deuil;
- Excellentes aptitudes à l’écoute active;
- Excellentes compétences en matière d’organisation et de gestion du temps;
- Solides compétences en communication écrite et verbale;
- Compétences en matière de résolution de problèmes et de gestion des conflits;
- Aptitudes à parler en public et à enseigner sur les questions de perte, de deuil, de mort et de décès;
