**Overview**
The Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) is a national museum dedicated to the evolution, celebration and future of human rights. It is the first national museum in Canada to be built outside the National Capital Region. Located in the heart of Canada in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the CMHR rises from the Prairie earth at The Forks, which has been a meeting place for over six thousand years.
The CMHR delivers an immersive, interactive and memorable experience for visitors of every background, age and ability. Each visitor has access to a fully reinvented museum experience that reflects a design approach that sets new Canadian and world standards for inclusion and universal accessibility.

**Purpose of Position**
The Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) is centered around the idea that respect and understanding of human rights can serve as a positive force for change in the world. The Event Assistant will support our collective efforts to build a workplace culture that is inclusive, equitable, innovative and focused on inspiring action.
Reporting to the Manager, Special Events, the Event Assistant will work during on-site events by assisting with room set-up and takedown and will be the point of contact during events as needed. This position will act as a Museum ambassador by greeting event guests, ensuring the security of guests, providing general information concerning services and responding to general questions from event guests.
The incumbent will be a strong and thoughtful communicator, critical thinker and innovator, and will bring a collaborative approach to their role.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Contributes to a culture that promotes respect, equity, inclusion and innovation, and models anti-racist and accountable behaviours.
- Assists the Events’ team with event set-up and take-down.
- Acts as a key point of contact during events as required.
- Provides event guests with general information concerning services, event information and Museum information.
- Works closely with the Event Coordinators to ensure that requirements and expectations for events are met.
- Ensures the security of the event guests and Museum property, assists with evacuation procedures in the event of an emergency.
- Conducts frequent inspections of banquet facility equipment; reports deficiencies and shortages to the Director, Business Development.
- Maintains a safe environment, including but not limited to fire safety protocols, and acts as a first point of contact to escalate security matters to the appropriate staff member.
- Other duties as assigned.
**Required Qualifications**
- Commitment to human rights principles, including respect, equity, inclusion and dignity for all
- Minimum of 6 months to 1 year of experience working in customer service
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
- Ability to be courteous and attentive to guests, to S trong customer service and communication skills with the ability to remain calm and unbiased
- High level of attention to detail
**Desired Qualifications**
- Knowledge of general security practices
- Ability to communicate proficiently in both official languages and additional languages
- Relevant and similar experience in a related organization or industry (e.g., museum or other not-for-profit organization or tourism/hospitality industry)
- Experience working with public events and being the site client point of contact
- Experience in working with floorplans
**Other**
- Union status: in scope
- Position is 100% on site, at the museum.
- Flexible hours of work, including weekends, holidays and some evenings
- Requires lifting, carrying and moving tables, stage pieces, chairs, benches, etc., up to 50 pounds (22.6 kg)
- Ability to move and stack chairs and tables, and use a dolly or trolley
- A considerable amount of standing and walking is required, and the ability to remain stationed in one area.
- Work is in an open public environment.
