NorQuesters are difference makers and we’re seeking a dedicated professional to join our Faculty of Skills and Foundational Learning team as a Language and Settlement Studies (LSS) Student Advisor. LSS includes ESL Intensive, Settlement Studies Diploma, Bridging to Post Secondary, TESL Certificate, and TEAL Professional Certificate programs. Reporting to the Academic Program Manager (APM), the LSS Student Advisor carries out a range of activities including student program advising, student engagement, and student success triage and intervention. They will act as the key program area contact for recruitment and liaison to the Office of the Registrar.

This position requires a high degree of responsibility, accountability, initiative, and leadership in a variety of operational areas. Excellent communication and liaising skills are required in order to work with students, internal college areas, and external stakeholders, when required.

The Student Advisor requires an advanced level of knowledge about programs included within the LSS portfolio, including the architecture, program accreditation and course sequencing, as well as admission processes both at the college and at other post-secondary institutions (PSIs). The advisor will maintain relationships with PSI partners for the purpose of ensuring up-to-date information and to facilitate student transfer credit pathways.

This position requires written and spoken respectful communication with students, staff, and faculty on a daily basis. This position requires collaborative work, exceptional relationship-building abilities, and a demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively in tight timelines or in stressful situations.

**HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE**
- Provide support on projects, especially those related to learner pathways, transfer credit agreements, and students supports.
- Maintain communication with internal and external stakeholders, as required and work with the APM and program chairs to complete early term prerequisite reporting.
- Create, run, and analyze reports to be proactive and intervene with advice and guidance to enable student success in the program. This may result in contacting students when progress is out of synch, required courses are missing, and redirection is required.
- Meet individually with students to advise them on student pathways related to their academic and professional goals, including building personalized program plans with students based on their goals and obtaining Foreign Credential Recognition.
- Display knowledge of GPA requirements and competitive entry changes in degree programs in PSIs, especially those in Alberta; assist students in matching GPA performance to applicable programs.
- Refer students to support areas as required, such as the Student Readiness and Retention teams, the Office of the Registrar, Student Assessment, Student Financial Aid, Centre for Growth and Wellness, Library and Tutorial Services, Office of Student Judicial Affairs, and Work Integrated Learning and Career Education Centre.
- When necessary, review academic performance with students to ensure that they are on track to succeed in their goals, work with instructors to ensure student success, and make recommendations to students for supports.
- Counsel students regarding course load, returning to the program after absences, transferring in from other PSIs, and program delivery transfers.
- Clarify reason, purpose, and requirement of academic probations; coach, monitor, and follow-up with requirements of academic probation.
- Participate in NorQuest recruitment activities, either with the Chair or on behalf of the Chair.
- Work collaboratively with Brand and Marketing, Student Recruitment, admissions officers at other post-secondary institutions to facilitate student transfer of credits, and transfer credit officers on behalf of the Chair to ensure the timely assessment of transfer credit at other post-secondary institutions.

**WHAT YOU BRING**
- Completion of a Bachelor’s (Undergraduate) degree from an accredited post
- secondary institution in Social Work, Human Services, Social Sciences, Education, or a combination of relevant education and experience.
- 5+ years of related advising and student support experience in a post-secondary.
- Demonstrated understanding of equity, diversity, inclusion, anti-racism, including the unique needs of Indigenous, International, and immigrant learners.
