**Role Responsibilities**:
The Business Continuity Officer (BCO) provides business continuity, emergency planning, facility emergency response planning, and department security services and support to the ministry and the facilities it operates.

Reporting to the Manager of Business and Operational Planning, in this role you will:

- Deliver business continuity, facility emergency planning and department security services.
- Maintain awareness of and research trends and best practices to improve the delivery of business continuity, facility emergency planning and department security programs.
- Develop and facilitate approval of annual business continuity and emergency response plans.
- Recommend key strategies to support department planning and operations.
- Represent the ministry when working with internal and external stakeholders to identify and evaluate program impacts as changes to GoA programs and policies occur. Provide information, both written and verbal, to senior leadership and executive teams.Strong conceptual and analytical thinking, system thinking, exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and organizational skills will enable the incumbent to develop effective business continuity project plans and programs. Excellent collaboration, interpersonal, facilitation, and project management skills are needed to ensure success in this role.

**Qualifications**:
**Requirements**:

- A university degree in a related field plus 4 years of progressively responsible experience in business continuity planning or emergency management or equivalent disaster and emergency management training with extensive progressively responsible experience is required.

**Preference will be given to those with**:

- Related training in emergency management principles, standards, techniques, leading practices, issues, and trends (including mitigation, planning, preparedness, response, and recovery) and their impact on business operations.
- Experience in project planning, development and evaluation with strong written communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to coordinate and lead staff through business disruption and emergency events to resume critical and vital services as quickly as possible.
- Demonstrated interpersonal, facilitative and consultative skills, including communication tools for consistent and effective messaging.
- Ability to lead collaborative activities, negotiate solutions and build consensus.
- Knowledge of regulatory obligations under federal and provincial legislation related to business continuity and emergency planning and response (such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Safety Codes Act and Alberta Fire Code).
- Current Business Continuity Professional certification would be an asset.

This is for 1 full-time permanent position located in Edmonton.

**Hours of work**: 36.25 hours/week, Monday to Friday 8:15 am - 4:30 pm, with occasional travel time required.

After-hours support to monitor for or respond to business disruption or emergency response may be required.
