**About Us**:
The Correctional Services Division of the NS Department of Justice is responsible for the administration and operation of community and custody-based programs and services for adults and young persons. Within the Correctional Services core business area there are two programs: Community Corrections & correctional facilities. Each of these program areas is broken down into closely related activities that have a specific impact on the program’s target group.

Community Corrections has 22 offices across the province from Yarmouth to Sydney and is responsible for the supervision of both adult and young persons serving community-based sentences. The sentences include probation, conditional sentence, custody and supervision, conditional supervision and Intensive Rehabilitative Custody and Supervision. Probation Officers also supervise those released from custody on conditional releases and prepare pre-sentence investigations to assist the Courts in the sentencing process. Evidence-based Program facilitation and supports to specialized courts in areas of domestic violence, mental health and wellness are also part of the role of a Probation Officer, as well as Restorative Justice casework and collaboration with community justice agencies.

**About Our Opportunity**:
The Scheduling Coordinator is responsible for all scheduling duties for full-time and relief-staff at the facility, as well as ensuring adequate coverage when faced with unscheduled absences such as illness or injury. In addition, the Scheduling Coordinator reports case management information to outside agencies such as the Worker's Compensation Board and Insurers and coordinates the Return to Work of employees previously absent due to illness or injury. The Scheduling Coordinator maintains and monitors attendance records, and inputs leave data into a provincial tracking database. The Scheduling Coordinator will report directly to the Deputy of Administration.

**Primary Accountabilities**:

- Create and maintain the schedule of full time and relief staff
- Create and maintain accurate and updated employee files
- Coordinate with the Deputy of Administration for processes regarding Return to Work and Absence management
- Administrative duties as assigned

**Qualifications and Experience**:
To be considered for this opportunity, you must hold a college diploma or post-secondary studies in a related field in addition to several years of directly related experience. The Scheduling Coordinator role typically aligns with a university degree with relevant coursework (i.e., mathematics/finance, data analysis). An equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable.

Experience scheduling full-time and relief-staff in a 24-hour operation is required, as well as an understanding of and the ability to adhere to and interpret collective agreements, policy, and guidelines. You have proficient keyboarding skills and a sound knowledge of general office procedures and computer programs, including MS Office, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and SAP. You must have experience with file and/or records management.

- The ability to ensure a high level of security and confidentiality at all times.
- Good organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and juggle multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Close attention to detail and timelines while maintaining accuracy.
- The ability to manage challenging/emotional situations and/or emergencies that arise in the context of a correctional environment.
- Knowledge of a records management system would be an asset.
