The Patient Safety, Quality and Accreditation (PSQA) Leader for the Physician Quality Improvement (PQI) program, reports to the Manager PQI and provides development, coordination, implementation,, coaching, and measurement leadership and support for physician-led quality improvement projects spanning programs at Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA). The PSQA Leader collaborates with clinical and administrative leaders and staff within and across PHSA agencies to prioritize, develop, and implement quality improvement projects.
As a PQI Quality Leader, you will be contributing to and playing a leadership role in healthcare improvement. You will have the chance to collaborate with colleagues across PHSA and from other health authorities. This role will allow you to be innovative, creative, and impact different program and clinical settings.
**What you’ll do**
- Work with PQI physicians and engage agency program staff in developing, implementing, and measuring quality improvement projects; prioritize quality initiatives based on program functions, needs and performance measurement system;
- Plan, develop and implement Quality Improvement education for physicians and staff using the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Model for Improvement. Ensure alignment of quality improvement projects with the program, health authority, and ministry strategic priorities. Leverage quality improvement projects to support larger Accreditation activities. Provide hands on coaching and support to PQI physicians to use QI methodologies (primarily the IHI Model for Improvement) in carrying out QI projects
- Lead retrospective (e: Root Cause Analysis) and/or prospective reviews (e.g. Failure Modes Effect Analysis) necessitated by safety events, critical incidents or process issues related to the program; monitor program staff and physician perceptions of safety, risk and quality improvement.
- Lead quality improvement activities including facilitating working group meetings, using quality improvement tools (e.g. process mapping), planning quality improvement level data collection and analysis.
- Provide facilitation, planning and implementation leadership and support to the PHSA PQI Network
- Contribute to continuous quality improvement of the department by identifying and evaluating new initiatives, developments and trends in Patient Safety and & Quality Improvement (PS&QI) and participating in corporate and program-led process improvement initiatives.
**What you bring**
**Qualifications**:
- A Master’s degree in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety, Health Administration, related health discipline or other relevant area or equivalent experience.
- 5 or more years of experience in healthcare quality improvement, health redesign, and/or leadership patient safety.
Skills & Knowledge
- Knowledge and expertise in Quality Improvement methodologies preferred.
- Working knowledge of project management and measurement for quality improvement. Demonstrated analytical skills with a global perspective in order to incorporate the organization’s systems and strategies when developing viable solutions to program problems.
- Ability to engage diverse stakeholders, manage ambiguity, and resolve conflicts effectively
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong computer skills, including the use of the Microsoft Office suite, and the use of virtual meeting technologies.
- Knowledge of the work of the Joint Clinical Committees (Specialist Services Committee, GP Services Committee, and Shared Care) an asset
- Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls calls for justice, and how they intersect across the health care system.
- Supports team members on their learning journey, ensuring education strategy for team/department to implement Indigenous Cultural Safety at a practical level.
- Works collaboratively with appropriate Indigenous teams/departments to ensure ICS lens applied holistically.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
