In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Provincial Health Services Authority patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA, and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Senior Director or designate, the Manager is responsible for the leadership and project management of strategic quality, population based system redesign and patient safety site wide initiatives across Children’s and Women’s. These initiatives or projects may involve reviews of practices, procedures and systems leading to the enhanced integration of services, better service delivery, improved patient/family satisfaction and the development of new programs and their evaluation.

The Manager works collaboratively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to plan, implement, coordinate and monitor program-specific, population based quality and performance improvement programs, focusing on maintaining an environment of continuous improvement to ensure cross-site alignment with PHSA vision, mandate and strategic directions.

**What you’ll do**
- Facilitates program specific and cross program Value Stream Mapping to develop a strategic vision and future plan and the identification of key strategic priorities.
- Provides leadership, mentorship and facilitation in agency identified process improvement initiatives, utilizing appropriate QI Methodologies such as Lean, Quality Improvement Science, Design Thinking and Change Management skills. Oversees the development of project charters, budgets plans monitoring timelines and key deliverables. Consults with stakeholders.
- Collaborates with identified stakeholders, community partners, staff, physicians and patients/families on identified agency and site wide initiatives. Manages a diversity of programs / related projects of varying scope in a complex and changing multidisciplinary environment and with a diversity of stakeholders. Maintains responsibility for ensuring that programs and related projects are completed in adherence to project protocols/ charters/ agreements, timelines, applicable institutional and ethical policies and procedures, and pertinent privacy legislation.
- Provides mentorship within the Developmental Pediatrics Resident’s Quality Improvement/Patient Safety project (a requirement of graduation from the Dev Peds Residency Program).
- Leads and directs staff assigned to support various quality, safety, risk, and performance improvement activities, initiatives and programs. Provides leadership to staff and team members through coaching, guiding and modeling key behaviours/strategies, encouraging dialogue and providing guidance and advice to facilitate resolutions to work issues.
- Works with program and corporate staff to develop, implement, and evaluate indicators of quality outcomes and performance; prioritize quality initiatives based on detailed analysis, program functions, needs and performance measurement system; plan, develop and implement Patient Safety and Quality Improvement (PS&QI) education, initiatives and materials including evaluation and PS&QI sustainment tools.
- Ensures C&W program-based quality and safety activities are in alignment with accreditation requirements. Provides or facilitates accreditation education to program staff as required. Leads program level actions to respond to recommendations arising from accreditation surveys, and to address new accreditation requirements. Leads site-wide initiatives to address identified gaps within the current system.
- Leads retrospective (e: Root Cause Analysis) and/or prospective reviews (e.g. Failure Modes Effect Analysis) necessitated by safety events, critical incidents or process issues related to the program; monitors program staff and physician perceptions of safety, risk and quality improvement.
- Proactively ensures program staff are educated regarding regulatory issues, new statutes and/or guidelines, and safety, quality, and risk management activities
