Job Summary:
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, National Business Development, the National Business Development Account Executive is a key member of the Sales & Marketing team. The National Business Development Account Executive will assist in building a more agile and effective sales and marketing capability that will underpin long-term sustainable and profitable growth for Markel Canada. Based in Montreal, the National Business Development Account Executive will primarily, though not exclusively, focus attention on understanding and meeting the unique needs of brokers in Quebec and the Atlantic Provinces.

A key member of the Canadian Sales & Marketing team, the National Business Development Account Executive will work closely with the AVP, National Business Development as well as other National Account Executive team members, senior Regional leads, Product Line Leaders and Markel Underwriters to drive the significant growth ambitions for the Canadian market. This will include leveraging data and market insights to proactively identify and target customers and effectively building the customer journey with a focus on customer experience.

Duties and accountabilities

1. Sales and Marketing Activities

In collaboration with the AVP, National Business Development, national account executives, underwriters, regional colleagues, product line, and sector leaders, deliver on the execution of business development strategies, which includes:
Manage owner/executive/decision maker level relationships across key broker portfolios, taking personal ownership of this relationship on behalf of Markel

Lead regular, structured review meetings to ensure the quality of the relationship and mutual growth is to standard and on plan

Clearly and concisely document broker activity and market and competitor intel to share internally across the organization

Deliver clear communication of Markel's risk appetite, value proposition and specialty product capabilities to all brokers within your portfolio

Prepare and/or create relevant, accurate, consistent and professional content for both broker presentations leveraging Markel’s internal data platforms and adhering to Markel’s structured brand templates

Deliver our proposition clearly, succinctly and professionally always

Be viewed as a trusted advisor to your external contacts and be recognised as an expert in your field

Influence and advance Markel's interests through strong interpersonal and presentation skills

Initiate direct contact with new and existing broker clients across Canada to introduce, through a mix of in person and on video calls, Markel Canada’s risk appetite, and in turn to discover the broker’s book of business and how that book aligns with Markel’s specialty products.

Use SNAP training and advanced questioning techniques to determine motivations and parameters for how we can achieve positive sales outcomes

Pursue new business opportunities by datamining client renewal databases and a “what’s on your desk now” tactical approaches to identifying opportunities that match Markel Canada’s risk appetite.

Effectively project manage complex opportunities from identification, to information gathering, coordination of internal and external stakeholders, to quoting and successfully closing. Provide feedback to continually improve the process from the broker’s perspective and operational efficiency.

Identify, coordinate and attend industry and broker events and tradeshows as required.

Deliver both distribution and product segmentation to support the development of the products and services suite and ensure an effective distribution focus.

Contribute nationally to ensure that annual goals for organizational success are relevant, measurable, communicated and with frequent feedback provided (formally and informally) with applicable domestic and international colleagues.

Support with the necessary collaboration with business partners (HR, Underwriting and Claims) to determine and deliver appropriate training and professional development for the teammates across Markel Canada.

2. CRM and Database Platforms

Assist in the implementation and ongoing data maintenance of Markel Canada’s Client Relationship Management software platform to ensure the integrity of the data is accurate and is being consistently input by M
