MacEwan University is seeking a Communications Assistant for a casual opportunity with our Sustainability department.

Reporting to the Manager, Sustainability, you will support the sustainability unit by creating engaging, compelling, and informative content for various media that promotes awareness, encourages participation, and builds community around sustainability within the MacEwan community. You will maintain and update the sustainability website and social media accounts, producing promotional and creative visual assets, and assisting with planning, organizing, and promoting various events, workshops, and campaigns.

Key responsibilities include:

- Drafting, editing, and proofreading engaging communication for various media to promote sustainability;
- Creating and updating website and social media content, producing visual assets and tracking engagement metrics;
- Supporting sustainability events and initiatives;
- Collaborating with the Manager and sustainability team to assess communication needs;
- Providing support to the broader Infrastructure Planning and Management department;
- Participating as a sustainability ambassador in workshops and events, and fostering connections with Communications and Marketing colleagues;
- Conducting research on sustainability topics to inform content creation;
- Analyzing data for reports on initiative impacts; and
- Staying up to date on industry best practices, identifying opportunities for improvement and efficiency.

**SKILLS**:
You will have:

- Knowledge of communications techniques and best practices, including oral communication and engagement skills;
- Demonstrated writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to write in various formats for diverse audiences;
- Creativity, problem-solving, and a solution-based mindset;
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities, with a keen eye for detail;
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with diverse stakeholders;
- The ability to work independently and in a team environment;
- Strong research and planning skills;
- Familiarity with using social media platforms to convey messaging (i.e., Instagram, LinkedIn);
- Proficiency working with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point), Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Canva; and
- Understanding of sustainability topics such as water and energy conservation, environmental management, building design, waste reduction, transportation, air quality, and human factors.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Must be a current student (or recent graduate) completing a degree or diploma program. Communications focused studies preferred.
- Experience in content creation, copywriting, communications, or marketing.
- Experience working in the field of sustainability would be considered an asset.
- Experience working in a post-secondary environment would be considered an asset.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
