The Community Standards Peace Officers are responsible to carry out daily duties through its various teams, which provide investigation and enforcement services to the general public, industry and for other City Departments. Teams include, Vehicle for Hire Unit, Commercial Vehicle Unit, General Duties, Downtown and the Community Safety Teams. All of these teams contribute to making Edmonton safer for all.

Your success will be measured by your ability to achieve results in a respectful, inclusive and service-minded way. With a focus on the City of Edmonton’s Cultural Commitments of Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

- Deliver city wide Peace Officer enforcement and bylaw enforcement services
- Conduct detailed investigations relating to public inquiries and officer initiated complaints and concerns
- Interview and obtain statements from complainants, witnesses and defendants
- Gather and prepare evidence from a variety of sources
- Determine appropriate enforcement action; seek voluntary compliance or issue warnings and penalty tickets
- Be deployed as a resource to meet operational and special event requirements City wide
- Support other City programs and departments, City Hall, Churchill Square, Vehicle for Hire, business, Business Improvement areas, and other stakeholders and areas as required
- Conduct moving vehicle traffic stops in adherence to employer policy and the Peace Officer Program’s guidelines regarding the use of emergency vehicles when enforcing violations under the Traffic Safety Act
- Establish and maintain accurate paper and electronic records and files
- Prepare letters, reports and court documents; present evidence in court
- Conduct mobile patrols to ensure adherence to municipal and provincial legislation
- Act as a positive ambassador for the City of Edmonton
- Other duties as assigned or required

**Qualifications**:

- Completion of a recognized Diploma related to Police Studies, Security, Criminology or a related field with a minimum 3 years of strong customer service experience and a minimum 1 year of diverse law enforcement including security, bylaw enforcement, provincial law enforcement or a related area experience is required; Or
- Completion of Grade 12 and a minimum of 5 years enforcement experience in a recognized law enforcement environment; or must have been a serving Police Officer in Canada, or employed as a Peace Officer level I within Alberta for at least 2 years
- Must possess or be able to obtain the Provincial Community Peace Officer I designation with completion of the Community Peace Officer Induction Program - CPOIP, as well as the Municipal Bylaw Officer appointment
- Must be able to obtain or have successfully completed the Physical Abilities Readiness Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) within 4 minutes and 45 seconds (4:45)
- Possession of valid Standard First Aid, CPR and AED certifications
- Professional knowledge of the Community Peace Officer Area, provincial requirements and standards
- Knowledge of City of Edmonton policies and procedures, law and the provincial Peace Officer Program
- Knowledge of operational and tactical planning
- Knowledge of MOVES, Corporate Registries and other programs are assets
- Experience in conducting moving violation enforcement and uniformed enforcement, commercial vehicle inspection and enforcement are assets
- Knowledge and experience working with diverse communities is considered an asset
- Ability to work in physically demanding and sometimes dangerous environments
- Completion of Verbal Judo, and Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT) or equivalent training are assets
- Must be able to work independently on confidential and complex issues
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must possess strong presentation and public speaking skills
- Excellent customer service, interpersonal, organizational and time management skills are required
- Strong team player with the ability to contribute to a high performing team
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, SAP and Google Suite
- A proven ability to work well within a unionized workforce
- Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including vulnerable sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent); eligible to obtain and maintain a City Driver's permit
