Texcan has an opportunity for an experienced Freight & Logistics Manager.
**Scope of the Position**
Working under the Director of Operations, the Freight Logistics Manager will be responsible for the Management of Customs and Freight Contracts and Processes. This will include both Rubicon and WISL systems along with any other relevant systems or processes.
**Major Responsibilities**
- Carrier Meetings / Relationship Building
- setting requirements and measuring performance using tools such as Carrier Report Cards.
- Maintain current knowledge of documentation and Customs requirements.
- Freight Related KPI’s - In conjunction with Operations, create freight / transportation KPI’s and track service failures; implement improvement plans to eliminate systemic issues.
- Ensure that WISL system is kept up to date and work with Systems Analysts as required to make improvements - eg. EDI payments, automate stock freight accruals, better GUI options.
- Maintain logistics related process documentation considering best practice and ISO Guidelines; focus on training for WISL and Freights Processes - Sales, CSRs, and Shipping.
- Create reports to be able to analyze freight, fuel and other charges for Vendor of Choice program or in-house requirements such as empty reel return programs.
- Work closely with AP and carriers to be sure that Texcan is being represented with cost saving solutions.
- Provide better freight information for sales/warehouses to shift decision making from customer to Texcan where there is consensus; actively solicit ideas for improvements from internal and external resources.
- Manage assigned projects as required.
- Negotiating of freight rates and contracts.
- Process EDI and freight variance reports with recommendations for reduction.
- Obtain freight quotes and book shipments for purchasing and sales as required.
**Experience**
- 5 -10 years related experience in freight/logistics and customs
- Process improvement experience is a valuable asset
- Road transportation with LTL, Full truck load and flat decks
- Good Analytical skills, detail driven, solid communication skills and the willingness to drive change are crucial.
- Tasks are considered non-routine and may be of several varieties.
- Good exercise of judgment generally covered by standards and precedents.
**Education & Training**
- High School Diploma required.
- University/College Logistics Diploma or Designation preferred.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office required. (Excel/Word/Outlook)
