Winnipeg, Canada The Nature Conservancy of Canada Full time

The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is the country’s unifying force for nature. We seek solutions to the twin crises of rapid biodiversity loss and climate change through large-scale, permanent land conservation.

As a trusted partner, we work with people, communities, businesses and governments to protect and care for our most important natural areas. Since 1962, we have brought Canadians together to conserve and restore more than 15 million hectares. NCC is a registered charity. With nature, we build a thriving world.

The Next Generation of Conservation Leaders (NGCL) Program is the result of NCC’s reinvestment toward early-career conservation staff experience in Manitoba. NGCL Program participants benefit from onboarding and training that includes work planning and goal setting. Participants receive performance feedback and career guidance from their supervisors during dedicated meetings at the mid
- and end of the employment term. Participants become part of the NCC team and are well supported to ensure safe work habits and environments.

This position is funded, in part, through the generosity of Jim and Leney Richardson.

**Purpose and General Description**:
Every year, the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) hires interns to assist with various aspects of delivering its conservation program, while gaining valuable skills in the conservation sector. In 2024, the Nature Conservancy of Canada will be hiring one communications intern to work for the Manitoba Region.

The communications intern will assist both the communications and engagement teams with a wide variety of content development, outreach, research, and promotional activities. Working independently and with NCC staff, the intern will help to develop regional content for NCC’s digital and print publications, promote NCC’s regional activities in communities across Manitoba, contribute to both virtual and in-person event coordination, and assist with the creation of materials. The intern will also assist with the organization of digital assets.

Positions may require travel and liaising with landowners, staff, volunteers, donors and partner organizations.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Support the development of content for various audiences and distribution channels.
- Research and write stories to showcase NCC’s conservation impact.
- Where needed, perform interviews with staff or external sources.
- Support the coordination, delivery and tracking of events, and marketing and communications activities.
- Create, edit and catalogue digital assets (both photos and videos).
- Update and edit NCC’s website (Manitoba section)
- Assist both the communications and engagement teams with ongoing activities as needed.
- Assist with researching key markets and/or prospective donors.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Required Skills and Attributes**:
This posting is targeted to individuals possessing the following skills:

- Strong interpersonal skills, including confidence with journalistic-style interviewing techniques.
- Strong writing skills, with a particular aptitude for identifying and telling great stories.
- Experience editing, proofreading, and fact-checking.
- Appreciation for nature, ecology, wildlife, habitat conservation and/or the great outdoors.
- Organized, attention to detail.
- Has an interest/experience in public engagement and communicating environmental topics.
- Self-starting, proactive and capable of working both independently and in a team setting.

**Terms of Employment**:
This is a full-time (37.5 hours/week) position for 1 year (February 19, 2024 - February 14, 2025).

Compensation: $18/hour.

Position is based in Manitoba, preferably in Winnipeg or Brandon, and may require travel. Travel expenses will be reimbursed.

The position may require occasional weekend and evening work.

**How To Apply**:
We value and incorporate diverse traditions, heritage, knowledge and experiences in our mission and in our workplaces. We celebrate the full participation of people from all walks of life as we work towards common goals. We strive for a conservation movement in which equity, diversity and inclusion are the norm. This is our continuous commitment: to promote healthy people, healthy communities and a healthy planet for everyone.
