**JOB SUMMARY**
- The Water Production branches operate and maintain the City's two water purification plants and the corresponding East or West remote pumping stations, reservoirs and communal well systems.- You are responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the process equipment and process vessels (settling basins, clear wells, intake wells, etc.) at City Water Purification Plants and remote facilities (pumping stations, reservoirs, elevated tanks).- You serve as the certified Water Treatment Operator for the system isolation, draining, de-watering, de-chlorination, cleaning, disinfection, and filling of all process vessels associated with the purification and distribution of treated water.- You also complete chemical unloading for all water purification and treatment of process chemicals, diesel fuel and sodium hypochlorite for all remote sites, including the mitigation, clean-up and reporting of chemical spills in an industrial, production, regulated quality focused environment. Tasks are completed, and considerations must be taken, with coordination of skilled trades (maintenance & engineer staff) within the branch.- Systems and equipment used:

- Metering and valve control systems (e.g. sulphuric acid, sodium hypochlorite, aluminum sulphate, sodium silicate, sodium hydroxide, sodium bisulphite, hydrofluorosilicic acid, aqueous ammonia, etc.)

- Treated drinking water
- Effluent Water
- Valve systems
- Sludge collection
- Transfer & mixing systems

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
- Completion of Grade 12- Minimum of 3 years of environmental, industrial, or chemical related work experience in an industrial or laboratory environment**CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES**
- Must obtain and maintain Ontario MOE Operator-in-Training Drinking Water Treatment Operator Certificate within the timeframe determined by the employer- Must obtain and maintain Ontario MOE Class 1 Drinking Water Treatment Operator Certificate within the timeframe determined by the employer- Valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated- Transportation of Dangerous Goods training certificate approved in Ontario- Must complete all required on-the-job training/certifications (e.g. WHMIS, fall arrest, confined space entry, etc.) within the timeframe determined by the employer.**KNOWLEDGE**
- Working knowledge of mechanics, functions and emergency shutdowns on tanker trucks
- Working knowledge of chemistry, physics, hydraulics and electrical devices

- Maintenance, repairs and procedural methods for cleaning and inspection of water treatment equipment and vessels
- Detailed knowledge of city of Ottawa’s water purification plants and remote facilities
- Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
