**Organizational Context**:
As a part of the Continuing Care Division, the Continuing Care Branch is responsible for leading continuing care system transformation which includes the development of provincial policy and legislation for continuing care (home and community care, licensed supportive living and long-term care) and the implementation of initiatives designed to support these changes and continuously improve quality. We lead a number of key high-priority initiatives within the Ministry of Health and work closely with other ministries, Alberta Health Services, clients and their families and other support persons, operators, providers and other health and service delivery stakeholders in planning for and monitoring continuing care programs and services.

**Role Responsibilities**:
Alberta Health has an exciting opportunity for leaders to join the Management team within the Continuing Care Division of the Ministry.

Reporting to Director of Strategic Policy, Legislation and Planning, the role will work collaboratively with other branches and divisions in the Ministry to enable and foster integrated communication and collaboration efforts.

To be successful in this position, you will model a highly collaborative approach when interacting with senior and executive representatives of the department, clients, services providers, and stakeholder organizations. You will represent the Ministry perspectives and positions on multiple cross-ministry or cross-jurisdictional committees.

Manager, Strategic Communications & Legislation

The manager is responsible for leading, planning, developing, implementing and evaluation complex strategic initiatives related to improving Alberta’s continuing care system through the implementation of recommendations from system reviews and new legislative frameworks. This position is responsible for:

- Overseeing and supporting legislative and regulatory reviews in line with established government processes and timelines. Steering the provincial continuing care legislative agenda and associated policy plans in support of strategic policy objectives and implementation.
- Overseeing the development and implementation of approaches to public involvement and stakeholder engagement processes, in alignment with CPE-stakeholder engagement requirements as needed as well as conducting strategic intra
- and cross-ministry and stakeholder engagement and communication leveraging content expertise from other sources.
- Leading issues management activities for the branch as well as developing strategic and public communications products for internal and external audiences.
- Monitoring the cross-ministry and stakeholder landscape to identify areas of common interest, potential, and external interest and readiness for change. Increasing political acumen through identification and tracking of political trends and realities impacting policy and sector development.
- Building and sustaining networks with internal and external stakeholders, including strong working relationships with partners.
- Navigating decision-making processes for the branch, including directing the development of policy tools to secure high-level branch policy and legislative decisions through Cabinet and associated committees.

**Qualifications**:
A University Degree in social sciences, business, public administration or other relevant program as well as 4 years of related experience is required.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
