The Policy, Planning and Legislative Services Branch of the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Status of Women is looking for a strategic, ambitious and collaborative professional to coordinate the ministry’s contract review services and coordinate legal advice.

**Role Responsibilities**:
The Manager of Legal Services provides expert technical advice to the Ministry related to contracts, agreements and legal/legislative issues. The Manager works with other Alberta government departments to advance the legislative work of the department.

**Responsibilities**:
Some of the role’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Coordinate the provision of legal services for the Ministry including reviewing and providing advice on contracts and agreements and seeking legal opinions and advice as appropriate.
- Provide legal review, analysis and advice to business areas regarding all non-standard contracts and agreements to ensure appropriate clauses and legal princiles are included.
- Prepare and coordinate the implementation of delegation of authority instruments.
- Provide advice to areas across the government regarding the Emblems of Alberta Act, the Freedom to Care Act and the Special Days Act.
- Lead the Ministry’s participation in government’s red tape reduction initiatives.

**Qualifications**:
**Required**:

- A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or Juris Doctor (JD)
- 4 years of directly related experience preferably working with government contracts, contract law, and managing accountability and governance requirements.
- Demonstrated experience in leading collaborative initiatives with diverse stakeholders.

**Equivalency**:

- Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

**Assets**:

- Experience in stakeholder relationship and facilitating collaborations.
- Knowledge of government policies and practices relevant to grants and financial issues.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills and the ability to lead multi disciplinary project teams.
- Exceptional written and verbal skills.
- Well-developed analytical and independent decision-making abilities.
- Extensive project management experience and the ability to manage complex and politically sensitive projects.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, Ministry policies, programs, and Business Plans.
