**Duties and Responsibilities**:
The Indigenous Initiatives Administrator and Special Project Coordinator provides administrative and development support to the Assistant Vice President, Indigenous Initiatives. This position is created to support Carleton University Strategic Indigenous Initiatives Committees’ Calls to Action as detailed in the Kinàmàgawin Report. The incumbent will be the first line of contact for communication with Indigenous communities, students, staff, and faculty who seek advice on matters pertaining to the staff, faculty and Indigenous community relations from the Assistant Vice President, Indigenous Initiatives. As part of working towards implementation of Indigenous initiatives the incumbent will conduct research, coordinate outreach and advise on special projects.

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Indigenous Initiatives, the incumbent will provide administrative support to the Assistant Vice President Indigenous Initiatives, will maintain updated information on the implementation of Indigenous initiatives, provide updated information to the Carleton Community, the IEC and the local Indigenous community on the ongoing implementation of Indigenous initiatives, and assist with budget oversight and reporting on internal funding for the implementation of CUSIIC Calls to Action. The incumbent will arrange all outreach initiatives and public events in relation to the implementation of the CUSIIC Calls to Action.

**Qualifications**:
**The incumbent must possess the following qualifications**:

- Detailed knowledge of barriers facing Indigenous peoples in participating in education and employment, including potential cultural alienation, rural versus urban transitions, the role of the family, and other issues
- Credibility and familiarity with local First Nation communities as well as urban First Nation, Metis and Inuit peoples, organizations and service providers
- Ability to impart sometimes sensitive or controversial information with tact and sensitively to diverse groups with divergent interests
- Recognition and respect for the diversity of First Nations, Metis and Inuit peoples’ expectations and aspirations
- In-depth knowledge of Indigenous history, cultures, worldviews, concepts and issues
- Experience administrating departmental budgets, including planning, forecasting and reconciliation
- Experience planning and coordinating meetings
- Ability to work with mínimal supervision, with exceptional level of initiative and reliability
- Advanced communications skills, with exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills are required
- Superior interpersonal skills, ability to interact successfully with all levels of administration and faculty, maintaining Carleton’s Service Excellence standards
- Proven ability to develop, implement and measure project implementation plans
- A solid understanding of the University environment
- Proficiency in working with the MS Office Suite

**Education and Experience**:
The above is normally acquired through the completion of a honours degree. This along with a minimum of 5 years of experience working with Indigenous communities, committees and/or organizations with a proven record of delivering quality programs and services to Indigenous peoples. Preference will be given for those with experience working in a post-secondary environment, including project management, office and budget coordination, and committee support.
