Manager, Climate Action Buildings

**WORK ILLUSTRATION**:
Responsible for overseeing the design, development, implementation, and operation of initiatives targeting commercial, institutional, multi-residential and industrial (CIMI) buildings in support of Toronto Hydro’s Climate Action Plan, especially Climate Advisory Services. Leads a team that works with customers, cleantech companies and other experts to remove barriers to climate action as part of advancing the net zero priorities of customers, governments, Toronto Hydro, and other stakeholders. Provides direction and expertise with respect to the contribution of CIMI buildings initiatives to Climate Action business operations, and overall attainment of the goals and targets of the Climate Action Plan.
The incumbent is expected to behave ethically and follow the established code of business conduct, policies and internal control procedures, laws and regulations governing Toronto Hydro.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Manages a team of professionals who advise to customers on options to reduce greenhouse emissions, including electrification, energy efficiency, and behind the meter resources
- Directs outreach to non-key account customers through various channels, including direct contact, associations, board of trade, events, partners, clean tech etc.
- Manages a team of professionals to design and deliver programs that connect customers with tools, resources and services that drive building decarbonization
- Identifies program design and deployment opportunities to support climate action for equity seeking groups
- Manages program safety, provides strategic direction, manages escalation, and engages in regular communications to program stakeholders to continually expand value to customers with integrated grid-side and behind-the-meter solutions in compliance with safety and program parameters
- Leads a team of professionals who work closely with service providers and technology manufacturers/distributors to facilitate customer-side electrification, energy efficiency and related energy transition projects
- Leads a team that proactively conducts market research to understand decarbonization technology and options in the CIMI buildings sector to inform customer outreach
- Manages the day-to-day systems, processes and services provided within and outside the organization by a team of professionals and administrative support staff to execute Climate Action Buildings initiatives
**REQUIREMENTS**
- Undergraduate degree (Engineering, Business, Environmental Science preferred)
- Certificate or diploma in Climate Change (strongly preferred)
- Post graduate degree - MBA, Meng, MSc (preferred)
- Project Management Professional (PMP), an asset
- 7 - 10 years relevant experience in program management, service delivery (utility industry preferred)
- 3 - 5 years progressive project and/or supervisory leadership experience
- Demonstrated experience in the area of process management, quality management, project management, business case development and change management
- Strong knowledge of electricity markets, regulation, systems, and technology, as well as DERs, and DSM/CDM
- Exceptional understanding of climate policy and politics at the federal, provincial, and municipal levels
- Good technical understanding of electrical power distribution risks and opportunities associated with buildings of various types and the energy transition
- Strong familiarity with cleantech/energy services providers and products, especially related to buildings initiatives (e.g. heat pumps, water heaters, DERs)
- Strong knowledge of applicable safety and legislative requirements and associated regulations and rules, both in relation to utility distribution systems and customer-owned electric facilities (e.g. Electrical Safety Authority)
- Strong stakeholder management and engagement skills; highly adept at managing politically charged situations/conversations
- Superior verbal, presentation and written communication skills
- Strong knowledge of the program and project management theory and practices
- Strong analytical and data management skills
- Large volume operational experience, and project and process management skills
- Superior and demonstrated customer and vendor management skills
- Demonstrated conflict and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated financial and business acumen
