**ABOUT THE ROLE**

We are seeking a resilient and adaptable Volunteer Coordinator to join our Resource Development Team. The volunteer program was greatly affected by the Covid pandemic, leading to a reduction in its size and effectiveness. As the Volunteer Coordinator, and under the guidance of the Manager of Community Engagement, you will play a crucial role in rebuilding and revitalizing our volunteer program. You will need to possess exceptional training and support skills to guide and empower staff members who oversee volunteers in their respective programs. This is an exciting opportunity to make a substantial difference and restore the vitality of our volunteer program.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Key Responsibilities**:
**Volunteerism - 70%**
- Help to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to rebuild the volunteer program, considering the challenges and limitations caused by the Covid pandemic.
- Assess the needs of each program and work closely with program managers and staff members to understand their specific requirements for volunteer support.
- Design and deliver training programs for program managers and staff members, ensuring they understand the benefits and value of volunteers, as well as the most effective ways to engage and support them.
- Provide ongoing guidance, coaching, and resources to program managers and staff members, fostering a culture that recognizes the importance of volunteers and their contributions.
- Collaborate with program managers to identify suitable volunteer opportunities within their programs, ensuring alignment with volunteer interests, skills, and availability.
- Implement a volunteer tracking and management system to monitor volunteer engagement, hours contributed, and impact achieved.
- Develop and implement strategies to recognize and appreciate volunteers, fostering a positive and rewarding volunteer experience.
- Collaborate with the communications team to promote the volunteer program and recruit new volunteers from the community.

**General Administration - 20%**
- Participate in team meetings, lead event kick-off meetings, and regular supervisions.
- Help foster a culture of philanthropy at Bissell Centre.
- Participate in safety walks around Bissell Centre’s downtown buildings.

**Professional Development - 2.5%**
- The incumbent must work to stay current in volunteer trends and technologies--especially within Canada--through continuous study, attending workshops, reading relevant materials, participating in web seminars, and consulting with experts in the field.
- Understand and confidently speak about Bissell Centre, its history, practices, programs, and objectives.

**Resource Development Team - 2.5%**
- Represent Bissell Centre at internal and external events as required.
- Give agency tours and public presentations as needed.

**Other duties - 5%**

**Qualifications and Commitment to Values**

**Education and Experience**
- Two years' experience in the not-for-profit sector or areas of volunteer coordination
- Completion of post-secondary education or related experience working with volunteers is preferred.

**Knowledge**:

- Knowledge of volunteer management principles, best practices, and strategies for rebuilding volunteer programs.
- Familiarity with the challenges and limitations organizations face in engaging volunteers post-pandemic.
- Understanding of the value and benefits that volunteers bring to charitable organizations and their ability to make a positive impact in the community.
- Knowledge of community resources and networks in Edmonton, Alberta to facilitate volunteer recruitment and engagement.

**Skills**:

- Proficiency in using volunteer management software or databases.
- Experience with project management software is an asset.
- Basic budgeting knowledge.
- Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to establish positive relationships with diverse s
