**Division description**

The First Nations, Métis and Inuit Education Division is dedicated to supporting systemic change across the education system to close the systemic achievement gap between First Nations, Métis and Inuit students and non-Indigenous students, and to ensure that all Alberta students are knowledgeable, understanding and respectful of the rich diversity of Indigenous peoples, including their cultures, language and histories; the importance of treaties; and the legacy of Indian Residential Schools.

**Role**:
Reporting to the Manager of the Research, Assurance and Data Unit in the Partnerships, Assurance and Research branch, the Strategic Initiatives Analyst(s) supports the long-term goal of eliminating the systemic achievement gap for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students in Alberta through:

- Researching existing and emerging issues, trends and promising practices related to First Nations, Métis, and Inuit education.
- Providing assurance and accountability for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit education related funding.
- Supporting the stewardship of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit student related data.
- Collaborating with ministry and government program areas on First Nations, Métis and Inuit education data related inquiries.

The position involves using collaboration and evidence to:

- Identify strengths, challenges, and opportunities in First Nations, Métis and Inuit education in Alberta.
- Recommend, prioritize, and support the implementation of First Nations, Métis and Inuit education programs, policies and initiatives.
- Support the improvement of education outcomes for First Nations, Métis and Inuit students in Alberta.

This position is responsible for:

- Undertaking qualitative and quantitative research that supports the department's programs and policies relating to Indigenous student success.
- Completing requests for data retrieval and analysis
- Developing and maintaining strong and productive relationships with Indigenous education stakeholders
- Development of operational guidelines and drafting communication in regard to educational material, correspondence, ministry briefings and reporting.

Staff in the Division work in an area that is politically sensitive with complex relationships that builds and reinforces sustainable short term and long-term programs and initiatives.

**Qualifications**:
A university degree in Native Studies, Education, Political Science or related field, and four years progressively responsible related experience.

**Equivalency**

Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one-for-one basis.
