The Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA) is a public agency and a provincial corporation of the Government of Alberta with a mandate to support and contribute to the development of the arts in Alberta. The AFA provides grant funding to artists and art organizations to encourage the growth and development of the arts sector. The AFA also promotes the arts and manage an extensive provincial art collection featuring work from artists all over the province. For more information on the AFA, please visit .

Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Executive Director, Alberta Foundation for the Arts, as the Director of Strategic Initiatives - Calgary you will be responsible for supporting the Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA) to deliver on its mandate to support and contribute to the development of the arts in Alberta, bolster the AFA's presence (including establishing a physical presence) in Calgary and Southern Alberta and execute on priorities outlined by the Minister of Arts, Culture and Status of Women, AFA Board and AFA leadership. This position is based in Calgary and will be responsible for directly supporting stakeholders in Calgary and Southern Alberta.

Leveraging your high degree of political acumen and initiative, you will maintain and enhance strategic relationships with arts stakeholders and other funders as well as understand Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA) programs and arts sector supports. You will be expected to navigate relationships competently, understand trends in the arts sector and communicate effectively about the value of the AFA to stakeholders and the public.

In addition to your well-developed communication (verbal and written), and analytical skills, your solid interpersonal organization and problem-solving skills, along with a proven ability to exercise extensive judgement and address sensitive situations, will be paramount to ensure success.

Qualifications

A university degree in a related field (e.g., Fine Arts, Communications, Business, Public Administration, Political Science) and a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible related experience in communication, fine arts, program development and building relationships with external stakeholders is required.

  • Experience enhancing Alberta's arts sector
  • Experience working with artists and arts organizations
Equivalencies will be considered on the basis of one year of directly related experience for one year of related education, or one year of education for one year of directly related experience.
