**Duties and Responsibilities**:
The Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities Technician participates in the delivery of general reference and information services in the Department. They also perform other related duties as required.

**Qualifications**:
The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

- Public service and instruction experience.
- Experience with teaching and research methods.
- Experience giving presentations.
- Current knowledge on emerging information tools.
- Experience with social media technologies.
- Experience in, or willingness to work in, a busy, complex service-oriented environment.
- Good oral and written communication skills, with the ability to express complex information succinctly and clearly.
- The proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment alongside Library staff, IT staff and the campus community to deliver services.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to effectively manage a varied workload and competing and changing priorities.
- The ability to work on their own initiative.
- A self-motivated learner with a track record of continually updating skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively with technology in a fast-paced environment while coordinating competing priorities.
- Ability to correctly interpret questions with clients to achieve mutually desired outcomes.
- Ability to understand when to seek further information or escalate requests and issues.
- Demonstrated accuracy, attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks.
- Strong written and oral communication.
- Strong user-focused service orientation.

- Knowledge about library services within other departments such as interlibrary loans and course reserves and can provide referrals in a timely fashion.
- Remains current on trends and good practice in libraries and in information literacy, including scholarly communication, publishing, open access, digital collections, Carleton University’s institutional repository, etc.
- Knowledge of French would be considered an asset.

**Education and Experience**:
The above is normally acquired through the completion of:

- Bachelor of Information Technology/Information Resource Management, or a university degree and a Library Information & Technology diploma.
- Five years of relevant library experience.
