Program Coordinator, Wii Chiiwaakanak Learning

Wii Chiiwaakanak means "partners" in Anishinabemowin and is an outreach initiative through The University of Winnipeg that provides educational, learning and capacity building opportunities in Winnipeg’s inner city. The Wii Chiiwaaknak Learning Centre provides the community with free and open access to computers at the RBC Community Learning Commons, the community classroom, free after school community learning programs,, cultural and language programs, and STEM outreach programs and events.

**Responsibilities**:

- Coordinates all logistics for program promotion, partnership development, and for all workshops/activities for specialized year-round community focused programs.
- Drafts and manages all program registration forms, and confirms participants for all Indigenous language, cultural, and STEM programs and events.
- Generates final program documents for participants utilizing registrations and evaluations. Prepares reports summarizing the program.
- Assesses STEAM workshops/activities using evaluations with students and teachers on an annual basis.
- Identifies and develops new age-appropriate STEAM related workshops/activities for youth.
- Recruit and train volunteers with the guidance of the Director, to assist with STEAM workshops and activities.
- Ensures program facilitators and instructors have all necessary supplies and equipment required for the delivery of programs.
- In conjunction with the Director, develops and executes program recruitment strategies and identifies new potential community partners.
- Purchases supplies, materials and equipment, ordering food, and arranging for media and print services, if needed, for all programming and events.
- Maintaining inventory of all equipment and supplies on a regular basis.
- Point of contact for access and/or booking of our community spaces such as the computer lab and classroom.
- Assists the Director in drafting the annual report content, photos, statistics and program coordinator letter.
- Monitors and reconciles budget for all outreach programming and tracks expenditures to stay within allocated funding.
- Reports on budget-related anomalies.
- Supports patrons of the Learning Centre using the computers as needed.
- Responsible for program-related hiring including: orientation, training, scheduling summer staff of 15-20 students and volunteers from partnering organizations,, and others duties as required.
- Recruits and manages volunteers, UW faculty and staff, external program facilitators, and community partners to assist with special events and summer programming.
- Supervises Office Assistant.
- Ensures that all external facilitators and volunteers work effectively and sensitively with people from a diverse variety of backgrounds.

**Qualifications**:

- Post-secondary degree, diploma, or equivalent experience in program coordination
- 3 years directly related administrative experience including working in an environment that supports diverse community needs.
- Leadership and coordination experience in an educational setting is an asset.
- Must have a good understanding of the inner-city and Indigenous communities - including knowledge of Indigenous peoples, language, and culture - in Winnipeg as well as available community supports.
- Minimum of 2 years experience building community partnerships with under served communities
- Experience developing STEAM-related workshops and activities for youth that are age appropriate is an asset.
- Familiar with school systems in Winnipeg and identifying ways to address barriers to participation.
- Must have demonstrated organizational skills in program planning, development, and volunteer coordination.
- Must have proven ability to work with and in multi-cultural communities/settings.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Must have excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiating, and conflict-resolution skills to deal effectively with a wide variety of situations.
- Must have strong interpersonal skills such as open-mindedness, flexibility, and an ability to work as part of a team.
- Must show initiative with the demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple projects at one time.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs and issues of a diverse community and inner city/newcomer community challenges.
- Must have demonstrated ability to work with youth.

**An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.
**Condition(s) of Employment**:

- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Must be able to work additional hours as needed.
- Must have a driver's license.

**The salary range for this position will be from $49,686.00 to $68,887.00 annually.**
