**Program Overview - Policy & Strategy, Central Services**
We are looking for a Government Relations Assistant who will be reporting to the Director of Public Affairs. As part of the Public Affairs Unit this role will work closely with the Assistant Manager of Government and Policy and support the Public Affairs Team in government relations, advocacy, and communications activities including material development, research, and event planning that contributes to achieving WoodGreen Community Services’ strategic policy and advocacy goals, and positions WoodGreen as Toronto’s leader in supporting vulnerable communities.

**What You Will Do**
- Develop blogs, social media and website posts related government relations activities, policy objectives and announcements of the day.
- Assist in government relations research requests or research-based projects.
- Assist in the development of briefing notes, letter writing, presentation decks and other government relations materials.
- Media monitoring of news related to our government relations activities, policy objectives and announcements of the day for all levels of government.
- Drafting contact lists.
- Internal communications and day to day administrative tasks.
- Editing and reviewing government relations material.
- Support the Public Affairs team in hosting internal government relations training workshops.
- Note taking and summary development when accompanying the Director of Public Affairs and Assistant Manager of Government Relations and Policy in meetings with key stakeholders, coalition partners, civil servants and elected officials.
- Support the Public Affairs team in touring elected officials on WoodGreen sites.
- Support the development of government submissions, white papers, and government relations and advocacy event preparation.

**What You Bring to the Team**
- Graduated or currently enrolled in a college diploma program, post-secondary degree or post-graduate certificate program in Public Policy, Public Administration, Government Relations, Communications, Public Relations, Politic Science or any other relevant fields.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Exceptional research skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, time management and organizational skills.
- Working experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

**Must meet the participant requirements under the Canada Summer Jobs Agreement with Employment and Social Development Canada as outlined**:

- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period*;
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**; and,
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
- The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.

**International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible. As the objective of the CSJ program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student’s time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.
