Government Relations Specialist

**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES**
The Government Relations Specialist will work to support TRREB's Government Relations program, including providing advocacy, outreach and research. The Government Relations Specialist is responsible for Member involvement in TRREB's advocacy efforts.
**PRINCIPAL DUTIES**
- Assist the Chief Operating Officer and Manager, Government Relations in establishing and leveraging a broad base of key REALTOR® relationships with decision makers at the municipal, provincial and federal levels.
- Responsible for political advocacy involving Members.
- Create opportunities for involvement of Members in TRREB's advocacy efforts.
- Responsibility for management of TRREB's "key contact program" of selected public decision makers with equal emphasis on public servants and elected GTA politicians, including regular visits with decision makers.
- Research on government legislation and proposals at all levels, including identifying issues affecting organized real estate.
- Provide advice in the development of TRREB positions on public advocacy issues.
- Assist with responding to Member and public inquiries regarding TRREB's position on public advocacy issues.
- Assist with strengthening current relationships with GTA politicians at all levels, in all TRREB municipalities including assistance with planning TRREB advocacy and other events.
- Assist the Chief Operating Officer and Manager, Government Relations in facilitating public policy campaigns.
- Develop and conduct training sessions on political advocacy for TRREB's political action representatives.
- Administer and facilitate Member government relations programs and initiatives.
- Arrange for government relations content to be posted on TRREB communication channels, including various TRREB public websites, social media and Member intranet.
- Keep current with all government relations trends and propose any new initiatives and/or concepts for consideration.
- Manage Member-volunteer issue based task forces, committees and sub-committees as assigned by the Chief Operating Officer.
- Manage TRREB's relationships with business associations, such as chambers of commerce/boards of trade, and other real estate associations.
- Assist with other TRREB special events, including on-site assistance as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned from time to time.
**HEALTH AND SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES**
The incumbent will follow safe work procedures, knowing and complying with all health and safety regulations. Personal protection and safety equipment will be used if/when required. Any injury or illness, unsafe acts or unsafe conditions must be reported immediately to their Supervisor.
**REQUIREMENTS**
**Education**:
- Post-secondary degree in political science, public administration, public relations / marketing, communications or related field required.
**Experience**:
- Minimum 3 years political, government relations or communications experience;
- Knowledge of the real estate industry and a customer service background is desirable;
- Superior written, verbal communication and research skills;
- Ability to assess and communicate complex matters into understandable documents and action plans;
- Sound knowledge of the machinery of government;
- Ability to work independently on multiple projects with time sensitive deadlines;
- Ability to interface effectively with senior political and departmental officials, other associations and a wide range of organizations whose support may be sought in achieving industry objectives;
- Ability to deliver presentations to a wide variety of audiences
**SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Working attendance may be required at events, which may be held outside of regular Board hours.
- Occasional overtime and after-hours work, including evenings and weekends may be required.
- A reliable vehicle and valid Ontario driver's license are required for occasional travel within the GTA.
