The Office of the President is responsible for advancing the university’s vision and mission, supporting institutional excellence and enhancing the profile and reputation of the institution, while communicating progress to internal and external stakeholders.

If so, you will want to hear more about the Manager, Government Relations role at Toronto Metropolitan University working in the innovative and always interesting Office of the President. Some of the recent exciting initiatives at TMU include opening Ontario’s newest Medical School and Law School among other impactful initiatives.

The Manager, Government Relations provides strategic analysis of the political landscape and makes recommendations about approaches to advance Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) issues in this environment.

They create and enhance TMU’s relations with all levels of government. The Manager supports the building and maintenance of strategic relationships with officials at the federal, provincial and municipal levels of government as well as other public sector institutions. They coordinate and prepare briefing materials for meetings and projects, and act as primary liaison for government officials on campus.

Here are some of the things you can expect to do in this role:
Strategic Analysis of the Political Landscape
Proactively monitor, analyze, and interpret government programs and activities, gather and share intelligence about government views on our issues and provide advice on the implications and opportunities for the university.
Coordinate visits by government officials
Project and Human Resources Management
Coordinate public sector compliance activities including Federal Lobbyists Registry, including creating the website and outreach plan for the TMU community.
Build relationships with key post-secondary advocacy organizations (e.g. COU, AUCC).

Qualifications

Completion of a post-secondary degree in a related field. A minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years’ experience working in the government (federal, provincial or municipal), including building relationships with multiple stakeholders. Experience in a post-secondary institution is considered an asset. Experience leading high-profile projects.
