**Program Overview - Policy & Strategy, Central Services**

A key member in assisting WoodGreen’s management team and Public Affairs Director, the Assistant Manager of Government Relations and Policy will bring significant experience from either working in government or for not-for-profit sector in an advocacy role, showing an ability to conduct research, policy analysis, understanding of the inworking’s of government. This role will support the implementation and development public affairs plans for WoodGreen service units.

**What You Will Do**
- Draft, edit and/or review government relations material such as briefing notes, strategic plans, proposals, policy statements, position papers, government consultation submissions, and committee presentations.
- Develop and maintain relationships with government officials, coalition partners, and stakeholder groups through communication, correspondence, and briefing material on behalf of WoodGreen.
- Attend, facilitate and schedule meetings with key stakeholders, coalition partners, and government officials.
- Attend external conferences related to social services, housing, workforce development, home and community care or any policy areas related to WoodGreen’s programs and services.
- Assist in coordination and logistics of WoodGreen Public Affairs Unit events such as lobbying days, roundtables, meetings, training workshops and conferences.
- Support developing WoodGreen’s policy positions and direction by conducting research and policy analysis.
- Develop contact lists for key stakeholders, coalition partners, and government officials.
- Lead efforts in media monitoring of policy announcements that impact WoodGreen’s programs and services.
- Work with communications team to draft communications material such as blog posts, letters, media releases, op-eds, social media content related government relations activities, or policy objectives.
- Support WoodGreen’s Manager of Public Relations and Corporate Communications with thought leadership work and government relations media material.
- Track and organization inquiries related to government relations, potential policy issues, or community concerns.
- Internal communications with WoodGreen departments and tracking of WoodGreen’s communications with all levels of government.
- Support the development of advocacy campaigns from start to finish and in collaboration with partners.
- Manage and provide oversight of interns or co-op students.

**What You Bring to the Team**
- University Degree or Post-secondary degree/post-graduate certificate in Public Policy, Public Administration Government Relations, Communications, Public Relations, Politic Science, or any other relevant fields.
- 3 + years of experience working in government or not-for-profit sector in an advocacy role or in a social services/government relations environment.

- Passion for government relations, advocacy, social services, community care, affordable housing, improving health and wellness of vulnerable populations is a strong asset.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and proven project management skills with an uncompromising attention to details.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, time management and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of Ontario Health, Ontario Health Teams and health system functionality is an asset.
- Knowledge of Newcomer Services, National Housing Strategy, Home and Community Care Sector is an asset.
- Willingness to learn and grow in the area of public affairs, government relations, and advocacy.
- Knowledge of lobbyist registration requirements at the federal, provincial and municipal levels.
- Understanding of issues pertaining to diversity, inclusion, belonging, and equity in everyday work.
- Quick thinker, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
