**AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY**:
The City of Brampton Building Division is focused on ensuring that construction knowledge and code expertise is a top priority for our technical staff. Enhanced by a firm understanding of customer service, this Leadership position will provide a comprehensive training and mentoring program for new recruits to the Building Division and ensure that there is a robust technical training and auditing program in place for all of our technical staff.

Monitors time frame provisions and notification requirements of the Building Code for permit submissions and oversees duties with respect to cancellation and revocation of permits.

Developing and implementing procedures, policies and standard practices to support the Plans and Permits and Inspection Sections; the Manager will provide advice and recommendations to the Director on new initiatives to promote consistency, efficiency and uniform enforcement within both Sections.

The Manager will also be responsible for leading and monitoring the Divisions legal processes related to prosecution of building code infractions.

**1. TECHNICAL SUPPORT**
- Develop a robust orientation and mentoring plan for all new employees based on their level of qualifications.
- Ensure that all technical staff have access to the training needed to maintain the highest level of technical expertise to meet the demands of changing regulations, new technology and construction practices.
- Monitor the technical audit program to ensure that there is proper field assessment of the inspections group, feedback and corrective support provided on an ongoing basis.

**2. REGULATORY ENFORCEMENT**
- Monitor and coordinate the legal aspect of the Division’s regulatory framework to ensure that legal action is properly coordinated within the required timeframes.
- Ensure that staff has a firm understanding of the legal framework and tools available to enforce the regulations within our jurisdiction.
- Provide support to staff in preparation for court appearances
- Research, give direction and provide approvals in regards to requests and agreements for conditional permits and temporary structures
- Monitor legislated time frame provisions as outlined in the Ontario Building Code
- Oversee processes and provide information to the Chief Building Official for requests for permit cancellations and revocations

**3. STAFF MANAGEMENT**
- Foster and develop a strong, positive team environment, driving empowerment, innovation and a high level of engagement.
- Prioritize and organize daily work direction to meet strategic time frames.
- Identify and support training and development needs of team members
- Provides guidance to and leads inspectors in the implementation of their duties.

**4. CUSTOMER SERVICE**
- Provide guidance, advice, counselling as required to resolve escalated customer concerns through effective investigation, mediation and conflict resolution.

**5. COMMUNICATION AND REPORTING**
- Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of departmental processes.
- Evaluate service metrics based on key performance indicators established corporately and by the department. Participate in identifying new or improved key performance indicators to measure the effectiveness of activities within the division.
- Prepare documents, correspondence and reports for presentation to senior management, Corporate Leadership Team and City Council.

**6. CORPORATE CONTRIBUTION**
- Anticipate, assess and evaluate internal and external factors that affect the organization such as design trends in the public and private sectors, technological and organizational practices and recommend strategies to implement measures and mitigate risks.
- Maintain knowledge of collective agreements, City policies and practices, legislation, regulations and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
